Hello Guys,

I have read a lot of topics in this forum (including "selfhelp") and tried to fix the problem myself, but I just don't know what to do,since I can't get it fixed.

When I open my webbrowser, firefox for the most time, a seperate internet explorer window opens and loads different webpages. I don't when this problem started but it must be either when I updated messenger live plus or when I updaten firefox (to version 2.0).

I have installed a couple of tools to search for malware. Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware and AVG Anti-spyware, but none of hem helped.

now I ran hijackthis and hope you can help me to fix my problem.

Well, I think I finally found the problem.
I deleted [MediaBird] C:\DOKUME~1\Daniel\ANWEND~1\BALMBO~1\platformchin.exe and then spybot detected the same program trying to reenter this file into startup. I guess the problem is fixed but I am not sure if the malware is gone itself.
My System is still running very slow, maybe its due to panda firwall runinng…

So I hope you can stillhelp me. Here is a new hijackthis log.

Welcome, that looks like a LOP infection.

Let's do this….

Clean out temp files:

Download and run ATF Cleaner - hit "select all" then just uncheck "cookies" (uncheck cookies is optional - leave it checked if you want to delete all cookies) then click "empty selected" That will clear out all the temp files on the system.

Next…..

Please Download NoLop to your desktop from one of the links below…

  • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
  • Double click NoLop.exe to run it
  • Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
    <>
  • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
  • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
  • A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish. Please Post the contents of C:\NoLop.log along with a fresh HijackThis log
–If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to your system32 folder then rerun the program.

Please download SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free)

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click "Yes",
let it through your firewall!
Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the "Preferences" button.
Click the "Scanning Control" tab.
Under "Scanner Options" make sure the following are checked:
1>> Close browsers before scanning
2>> Scan for tracking cookies
3>> Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
4>> Ignore System Restore/Volume Information on ME and XP
5>> Please leave the others unchecked.
6>> Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.

On the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click "Scan your
computer".
On the left check "C:\Fixed Drive".
On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose "Perform Complete Scan".
Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click "OK".
Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click "Next".
It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click
"Yes".

To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
1>> After reboot, double-click the "SUPERAntispyware icon" on your desktop.
2>> Click "Preferences". Click the "Statistics/Logs tab".
3>> Under "Scanner Logs", double-click "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log".
4>> It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
5>> Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
6>> Click close and close again to exit the program.

Now please paste the "removal information" along with a fresh "HijackThis log" and the log from NoLop in your reply. If it's a large log, you may need several replies to post it.

Thanks a lot for the fast reply! I did everything you said, except for the cleaning of temporary files, because the program crashed each time I tried to clean.

Enable hidden files:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK" (reverse this procedure when we are done)

Please disable TeaTimer by opening Spybot SD and on the left menu choose Tools and then Resident. In the right hand pane you will see a check box for TeaTimer and for SDHelper . Please uncheck both boxes and then close Spybot. You can reinstate it later but we don't want it interfering with what we need to do.
Reboot into safe mode when done

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and…..
Place a check against the following items:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MediaBird] C:\DOKUME~1\Daniel\ANWEND~1\BALMBO~1\platformchin.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Don't open e-mail attachments without first scanning them with an up-to-date
anti virus program, even after doing that I would be very careful. Don't click on any executables in e-mails or any other links that you're not sure of.
Watch your surfing habits, don't click on or download anything you're not sure of. Don't install a program that hasn't been recommended by a reputable organization.
