Computer booting after shut off

help with this odd behavior,Hi all need
I have noticed that my computer will startup from the shut down mode around 4am! I've caught this happening a number of times when I fell asleep downstairs where my work station is located. Here is my HiJack this log, as of today.Running WinXP Media edition.

To save the virus warriors time here I have read the instructions, run all the self help programs, Spybot, Ad-Aware, AVG in safe mode with nothing to report except a zedo tracking cookie. I have trend micro 2007 and regularly run their DOS scans virus/spyware scans. Never find anything but I do get a lot of 'can't read password protected' scan items. I also ran a Kapersky scan and a NOD32 with no result except for items that are password protected. Hope this helps Thanks

We can see if a rootkit is present if you want.

Download and install AVG Antirootkit Beta

  • Reboot your pc first before running AVG Antirootkit Beta.
  • After rebooting, run the AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta, click "Perform in-depth search." Allow AVG to complete the scan. The AVG scanner will give the "Rootkit path" as C:\WINDOWS\System32:lzx32.sys

  • Select the Rootkit Driver by placing a checkmark against it and click "Remove selected items." Next, agree for the terms and conditions that is displayed by AVG and click "OK" to reboot the PC.
  • AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta renames the Mailbot.AZ Rootkit Driver so that the driver will not be loaded at the next reboot. But, it doesn't remove the actual Rootkit ADS and its Registry Entries. These can be removed by using ADS Spy.
  • Download ADS Spy, a freeware which can be used to detect and remove ADS in NTFS systems. Extract ADS Spy to its own folder then, run ADS Spy. Select the "Full Scan (all NTFS drives)" and click "Scan the System for Alternate Data Streams." Once the scan is complete, select the C:\WINDOWS\System32:lzx32.sy_ from the scan result, and click "Remove selected streams"

  • Close ADS Spy and ALL open Windows.

I downloaded AVG Anti rootkit 1.0.0.13 and followed instructions, finished first scan, but their was no rootkit path in the window, C:\WINDOWS\System32:lzx32.sys in AVG ARK as indicated by the first image on your reply. I can go no further, any ideas?

PS:I uninstalled the app and reinstalled the app and ran it just to check if something got corrupted, same result for both scans.

Yes, I was one step ahead of PAWS and read and checked out the the same microsoft web page a few days ago. I was unable to find the culprit. Over, Uh1Charlie

SpySweeper
Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)
  • If you are taken to the internet page, just close the page.
  • You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
    (This may take several minutes)
  • Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.
  • Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!
  • When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next
  • From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HJT log as well as the Results from Spy Sweeper file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

during SpySweeper install the program informed me that it is not compatible with Trend Micro Internet security and I needed to remove it. At the moment I do not have time to uninstall and reinstall and configure. I have AVG spyware so I did a safe mode scan of 282,000 files…..nothing found. I am sorry if I wasted your time by not following instructions, I hope you understand. I will follow up on this. Here is my HiJack this log
