Looking for the outcome? Ask AI

I am having occasional blue/blackscreen crashes and a KERNEL 32 close error message at every start-up.

I have run a HijackThis scan and can see that there is a rogue file called ..Windows\system\kdzle.exe and an 017- file ………Name Server= 85.255.116.52, 85.255.112.106

I am sure that this is causing my problems but cannot find out anything about the \kdxle.exe file on the web.

Some help to remove these slyware files would be appreciated.
Please find attached a copy of the HyjackThis scan log.

kind regards
BarryA

hi BarryA,

you have whats called "ware out" the trojan has set up a dns server for your computer to use, why? to redirect your web pages via the dns server, so you end up at other pages. is this happening to you, any web browsing problems?

there is a special fix for this which should run on all versions of windows, needs a active internet connection.
the startup error message may be unrelated to the malware problem.
——————————-
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

shelf life
Hello ShelfLife
I must apologise for only just picking up your reply to my original posting, however my controls are set to receive email notification of replies but I have not received any emails and therefore thought that I had so far not got any replies. I even posted a 'No Reply Within 5 Days' with no reply, so have just looked at my posting to see if anything was incorrect only to find there was your reply. Can you see from your end why I am not getting emails?
Anyway the redirection is exactly what is happening so I have downloaded FixWareout and attempted to run it but got this message:
***********
BFU.exe was not present, unpacked or in proper location.

Please make sure you have a working internet connection or

Download bfu.zip (Brute Force Uninstaller) manualy and extract the file BFU.e
to the \fixwareout folder then restart the batch, fixit.bat.
From this address please http://www.merijn.org/programs.php#bfu
Press any key to continue . . .

So I have done nothing else for the moment but made a new HijackThis report as follows:

Hello Shelf Life
Ok, I downloaded it from the second link this time and it worked ok.

I get re-directed to other sites not pop-ups, (anyway I have PopupStopper which is 100% in killing popups).

(other than cookies) shelf life
Hello shelf life
Have removed the 017- line entry in HighjackThis scan.
Also though I do not know what is the line:-
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [KB918547] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KB918547\KB918547.EXE
it was never there in the past, I tried to search for info on it on the web but could find nothing and suspect it might be an invader of some sort.

Ran cleanmgr, but as I have never thought Ms to be thorough I always use instead a mini-program called Cleanup.exe and so ran this afterwards also, it cleaned out hundreds more Temp and Temp Internet files along with lots of other un-needed files. I run this often about every couple of days or always if I have been surfing for any length of time.

Tried to run cmd.ipconfig/flushdns which it would not recognise.
(what is dns ?)

Have had Spybot along with Ad-aware for a few years. Used to run them both but did not find Spyot as thorough as Ad-aware. If I ran Spybot first, Ad-aware would always find additional items. If I ran Adaware first, Spybot has never found anything. However I have always kept it updated, just in case and do run it on odd occasions.
Ran in now alone and it found nothing.
I always run Cleanup.exe before either of these two programs as it clears out in seconds and leaves them with nothing trivial to find like MRU lists and cookies.
Ad-aware occasionally finds some trackers.

here is another HighjachThis log:-

hi BarryA,

thanks for the info. this: KB918547.EXEyou got via windows update, its a MS patch for W98 and ME.

DNS is domain name system. when you type in a www. xyz.com- that is translated in to a numerical ip address like 192.168.2.1. you would get this from your isp when you use your browser, it all happens in the backround. Well to help "speed things up" some versions (dont know about ME) will store locally these numerical ip address so you dont have to get them from your isp. after so much time or logs it automatically "flushes" itself and starts over. we were just trying to help the flush along, just in case any badies were in there.

ive used cleanup before myself, works great. wow i didnt know ad aware ran on ME i was going to suggest a squared: in any case if you use spybot and ad aware, thats plenty.

log looks ok

shelf life
Hello shelf life Yes the log looks clean now, I guess it was that 017- line causing the problem. I will see how things go now to see if the re-direction has gone away. Forgot to say, i turned off my System Restore while cleaning up so I get rid of any nasties hiding in there. The only other problem I have had for some time is with my Internet Explorer, I frequently get two error messages, one saying something has caused a problem with IE and it must now close, and the other saying there is a Kernel 32 problem with IE and it will now close, they often come together. Have never been able to get rid of this problem, it closes all web pages I have open. Any ideas? rgds………..BarryA
hi BarryA, good idea about system restore. not sure about the IE error. i know in w98 if you clicked on IE in the add/remove programs panel you would get a option to attempt a repair of IE. not sure about ME. maybe that freashdownload thats intergrated in IE. sometimes IE addons can cause problems. shelf life
