Hi ostrich, Welcome to TomCoyote Forums !!

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure

I need you to download some programs to aide in our fix :Do Not Run Them Yet

Download SmitfraudFix© by S!Ri to your Desktop.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune

Download and Install AVG Anti-Spyware© by Grisoft

Launch AVG Anti-Spyware, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update AVG Anti-Spyware to the latest definition files.
On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link
Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware

Double-click smitfraudfix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
IMPORTANT: DO NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you

When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed
Open the rapport.txt file
Copy and Paste the contents of the rapport.txt file here

Hi LinkMaster –

I know……first time I’ve used a forum both ways. Had to register twice. ha

Yeah, went to some sexsites. Single though, but won’t do that again. Full of predators, huh! Anyways, cannot provide you with an AVG report as, while following your clear and concise inst to the letter, AVG would not provide the report info after I ‘applied all actions’. I do recall 34 items found. Of which: several cookies and downloader zlob. I also recall they were all in Mozilla dir. That’s where I was browsing those dangerous sites from, but using proxies. Thought high-a proxies were safe.

AVG scan took almost 2 hrs, but will do it again, first checking for report settings. Course, the bad guys have been rem’d now. Panda on-line wouldn’t initiate…….just hung. Tried offing everything in norm and safenet and safenetadmin modes with and w/o antivirus/firewalls and just just hung. Tried (&tried) to install Panda AV but said NIV ad to be rem’d and had a nightmare trying to uninsall/reinstall twice before. Only 3 mos into a 12 mo sub. Should I dump Norton for Panda? Blogs really berate NIV these days. Whatawaste.

All night at this and incomplete and unsatisfactory results. Almost bagged it and reformatted, but my BU is too old. Never could get the Panda to perform. Tried EveryThing. Oops, am I bitchin’? But, here’s what I do have………..

Wait……..it’s Sun now, and Panda on-line appears to have worked. Here’s what I have for you………….

Looks OK, huh. Like your steps cleaned my data. Let me know your eval of this info. I suspect thank you, thank you, thank you would be in order. "If I can't find it, it doesn't exist." I think I believe it.

gt (o)
Your log seems to be OK now !!

Just one more thing :
**Turn off System Restore**
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer
Click Properties
Click the System Restore tab.
Check "Turn off System Restore"
Click Apply, then click OK and Reboot

**Turn ON System Restore**
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer
Click Properties
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check "Turn off System Restore"
Click Apply, then click OK and Reboot

How is your system running now ??

Here are a few tools that I recommend for protecting your system and reduce the risk of infection again !!

Real Time Prevention
SpywareBlaster© by Javacool Software :
*Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests
*Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
*Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
*Consumes no system resources

*Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done
*Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page
IESpyad© by EHowes : This will add several hundred Restricted Sites to the Restricted Site Zone in IE.

File Cleaners (temp, prefetch, cookie, etc)
2000/XP Only
ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune
All Windows
CCleaner© by CCleaner.com

Spyware Scanners:
Ad-aware SE© by Lavasoft : Provides protection and removal of trojans, dialers, malware, browser hijackers, and tracking components
Spybot - Search & Destroy© by Safer Networking : Detects and removes spyware of different kinds from your computer

Good Free Antivirus Programs:
AVG© by Grisoft
AntiVir© by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH
Avast© by ALWIL Software
NOTE:Remember always have just 1 antivirus program running at a time. Having more than one running causes a conflict between the programs !! You can use one as a backup to run manually

Windows Update:
It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks
Windows Update

Firewalls:
If you have an "always on" internet connection, such as DSL or Cable, I recommend a Firewall.
A firewall will make your pc invisible to the outside world and will filter the outgoing and incoming traffic on your pc.
For a good idea of how vulnerable your system(s) are go to GRC
Scroll down to "Shields Up" Click on "Proceed" Then click on "Common Ports"to scan your ports.
Free Personal Firewalls :
ZoneAlarm Firewall© by Zone Labs
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall© by Sunbelt
Outpost Firewall Free© by Agnitum Ltd
Jetico Personal Firewall© by Jetico, Inc.

Alternative Browsers :
Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness
FireFox© by Mozilla
Opera© by Opera Software ASA

Always keep your Antivirus & Spyware Removal Tools current with the latest definitions and updates !!

Using these tools and keeping them updated will reduce the risk of future infections!!
