Run your System File Checker to replace any missing or corrupted files in your Windows 2000 operating system. Start - Run - (type)sfc /scannow <——- notice the space between "c" and "/" Have your Windows 2000 installation CD handy since SFC will call for it to copy/replace any missing or corrupted files. Welcome to TomCoyote, and sorry about the delay in replying. Best Regards
thanks for the advice!! i figured out the problem though! im not logged on as an administrator, i've never had a problem with this before and ive been running this computer for over a yeear. Now it says i need to be an administrator, but there is no administrator and windows 2000 doesnt let you make one from the users folder in the control pannel, and i cannon download anything that changes the registry while logged on as a user. Is there a way i can make a administrator account on this computer without having to re install windows, up to a week ago everything was working fine with out one… my user folder was empty. Please help!! thanks for your time everyone.
Reboot into SAFE Mode. At the Login screen you will be given option to login as Administrator, or as your other user Account names. Select Administrator. GoTo Control Panel - UserAccounts Either Create a new Administrator Account or Change your current Login Account to have Administrator Privileges. Note: For "internet security" it is strongly recommended that you use "limited user account" when doing your ordinary browsing/online work. Best Regards
i cant change to administrator from the control panel users list, there are no options for it, and i cannot log in as a administrator because there are no accounts set up! :-( ;-( i am using windows 2000 not xp.. what should i do. Thanks again for your help its greatly appreciated
ok ok i found out how to put it in safe mode, but the option to log in as administrator never came up, and it wasnt in the users accounts in control pannel. what now?
