So McAfee keeps telling me that it found it and deleted it, and whenever I scan my computer everything checks out. But a couple hours later, McAfee tells me that it found it again and deleted it. So pretty much, I am confused and concerned. (In advance, you guys are amazing and thank you so much for helping people like this!).

Welcome to Tom Coyote . Sorry about the delay in responding but we are as most times just overwhelmed with logs.

You are using a very outdated version of HJT that is not showing me the whole picture, you need to update it and post a new log.

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button and not the New Topic Button
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Thanks.

I need to see the AVG Report and a New HJT log please.
Thank you so much. Just so you know, I did encounter two problems, though.

1. When fixing the things you told me to fix in HijackThis, HJT told me that an "unexpected error occured" when trying to fix O20 - AppInit_DLLs: e1.dll alrsbatt.dll . I did another scan, but it didn't show up anymore.

2. After the AVG scan, still in safe mode, you told me to locate four files and delete them. However, I was unable to find any of the four. I first used the "search" option, with no results, and also went to My Computer -> C:\ -> WINDOWS (and WINDOWS -> System32). They were these four files:

mmfubits.dll
zlocard.dll
alrsbatt.dll
e1.dll

I did find a couple files with similar names (mmfutil.dll, mmfubits.z1, alrsvc.dll) but didn't delete those or anything.

Besides those two problems, everything went smoothly and hopefully I am worm-free. Here are the AVG and HJT logs:

Hey,

If you look at your AVG log you will see most of what it found where cookies and files backed up in your System Restore Program.

First, open AVG and go to the Quarantince folder and delete it all, nothing in there you want to keep.

Then lets flush out your System Restore, I can't emphasize enough how important it is to create a new Restore point.

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • ClickProperties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Create a new Restore Point <– Very Important
  • Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

C:\WINDOWS\system32\alrsbatt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\e1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmfubits.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zlcocard.dll

Highlight all the files with the complete path inside the quote and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.
  • Open Pocket Killbox
  • Go to File > Paste from clipboard
  • Set it to Delete on Reboot
  • Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
  • If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
  • Make sure ALL Files is selected
  • Click on the Red circle with the white X
  • It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
  • It will ask you to reboot, say yes
If you get a message "pending operations has been stopped by external process!" then reboot the computer manually.

Post a new HJT log and lets make sure nothing has come back. The rest of your log looks good  How is your computer behaving now???
All done. Thank you so much! My computer is running good. Every since I did what you told me to, McAfee hasn't popped up saying that it's found and deleted a file infected with that Stration worm thing. That tells me that my computer is better. =)

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Java website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
