Hi Test on connection speeds have been completed I started last night using 2wire.com and got what I thought were strange results. I did 3 tests with the following results - 1) 0kbps 2) 220.18Mbps 3) 220.18Mbps I then tried a UK site I know called ThinkBroadband.com which give results as Download speed / Upload speed 1) 5.2Mbps / 0.4Mbps 2) 5.5Mbps / 0.4Mbps 3) 5.2Mbps / 0.4Mbps I repeated the entire test this morning with similar results 2wire 1) 220.18Mbps 2) 0kbps 3) 0kbps Thinkbroadband 1) 5.9Mbps / 0.4Mbps 2) 6.1Mbps / 0.4Mbps 3) 6.0Mbps / 0.4Mbps Before my pc was infected my download speed was averaging 6Mbps so the ThinkBroadband results are familure. As a test I used a different PC using a wireless connection with the same modem / phone line and ISP with the results below. 2wire 1)1.39Mbps 2) 1.3Mbps 3) 1.3Mbps ThinkBroadband 1) 4.8Mbps / 0.4Mbps 2) 4.8Mbps / 0.4Mbps 3) 4.8Mbps / 0.4Mbps I hope this helps Thanks Chris
Lets do this again:

Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns
If you are typing this in, note the space between the g /f
It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Hi

I think both logs requested are here

Thanks

Chris

Hi

Last post completed but no change to performance of IE7

IE7 loads as normal

Trying to load a page using either the address bar or selecting a favourite normally results in a complete failure to load and the few pages that will do ( like tomcoyote.com ) takes on averidge 5-6 minutes.

Thanks

Chris

Reboot
Hi I followed topic 73801 which you recommended which took me to the Microsoft site about Phishing. I disabled the filter and rebooted but it has made no difference to my problem. Could it be that the Hijacking by JUPK not only added the programming to divert IE7 to its own sites which I think you have been able to help me remove but also changed settings somewhere which has caused the severe decrease in loading speed actually on the PC as the connection speed seems to check out ok. Also is it possible that my copy of IE7 has been corrupted and if yes would downloading another copy from MS help to repair the original copy and can I do this without deleting the original copy. Best wishes Chris
lets see if this will help speed it up.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

NOTE: To be extra safe you can choose to only remove the items in RED.
Hi Post 26 actioned but with no improvement in download speed afterwards. Still cannot load a lot of pages at all and others taking over 5 minutes. Cheers Chris
Hi Progress has been made. Your suggestion to try Firefox was spot on. I have been using Firefox for a few hours now and it loads all pages requested and as fast as IE7 before it was hijacked. I presume this proves the problem is within IE7 itself so ,as I would like to continue to use IE7, can it be repaired or is it easier to simply download another copy from MS download site over the top of my existing copy. Thanks Chris
See if IE7 is listed in Add/Remove/Programs 1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. 2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed: Then download it again.
