Welcome to the forum, if you still need help follow these directions.

Thanks to LonnyRJones, Swandog46, AutoDad and any others who helped with this fix.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

(save the logs until you finish with the instructions)

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.19 85.255.112.158

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt and a new HJT log. Let me know how the computer is running now.

Thanks
Thanks a lot pskelley for taking the troble to reply! Here are my fresh HijackThis log & fixwareout report as requested…

No good reason for those to still be in the log. Perhaps something in your Norton/Symantec is blocking the change? I can't see any other program that would block it. Try this again and make sure all programs and all windows are closed except HJT when you run it.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{05E832FC-D989-46CA-BBF0-CFEF975AE104}: NameServer = 85.255.114.19,85.255.112.158
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{5585457F-0F12-4129-A64C-DAF05C33A327}: NameServer = 85.255.114.19,85.255.112.158
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F5C9629C-D8CB-4773-A52A-64C21CF65EBD}: NameServer = 85.255.114.19,85.255.112.158
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.19 85.255.112.158
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{05E832FC-D989-46CA-BBF0-CFEF975AE104}: NameServer = 85.255.114.19,85.255.112.158
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.114.19 85.255.112.158

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

If you get any requests from Norton/Symantec about allowing the change, make sure you do. Those items are redirects caused by the Wareout infection and they must be removed.

Thanks
Apologies! I posted that HJT log before I went through checking the settings on my system and ran ATF cleaner. Here's my HJT log file after I did all that (one line item you mentioned wasn't there : 017 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\.. \{05e832FC-D989-46CA-BBFO-CFEF975AE104}:NameServer = 85.255.114.19,85.255.112.158)…

Thanks :) I checked to make sure it was a new HJT log and was a little concerned the Wareout junk was still there. This log looks to be free of malware, I would say you are good to go. Let's do this:

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

I see no active spyware program running in the HJT log? Like one antivirus and one firewall, you should have one good spyware program running. You may read the advice of experts I will post in a minute or I will say that Microsoft is giving away Windows Defender, you may try it:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s…re/default.mspx

I also advise updating to Internet Explorer for the additional protection it affords:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
