Hi,
I am having some trouble with my computer turning on. This is a sporadic thing. It is plugged into a surge protector…..along with other things. Sometimes the computer won't turn on, I can then unplug it from the surge protector, wait about a minute, plug it back in and then it will turn on. The other things plugged in…router, printer, moniter etc do not ever shut off, just the computer base. Do you think this could be the surge protector or something with the computer?
Thank you
Well, now that you say that I do not think it is the surge protector. I have unplugged it from the surge protector about a month ago, plugged it into the wall, then had the same problem. So, it must be the computer.
Thanks
There are a "bzillion" things in and of the computer that would cause it not to boot.
You seem to be focused on the Power connection.
That's fine.
Do you have a spare Power Cord (like from an old Monitor or old computer) that you could swap in?
Well I finally got around to trying another power cord as well as another surge protector. Neither of these are the cause of the problem. Is there something else I can check on? Thanks
Hi tricia,
Once your machine powers on, are you able to remain on?
Are there any other symptoms/problems that you experience that prevent you from using your computer the way you would ordinarily like to?
Problems running graphics intensive applications? (gaming for instance)
Problems running RAM and CPU intensive applications? (burning a CD for instance)
Problems navigating on the Internet? (inability to connect with selected website, or browser re-directs)
Problems with routine maintenance? (Running anti-spyware or anti-virus scans for instance)
Problems running Disk Defrag?
Is there a particular time of day that your "inability to get powered up" occurs?
Have you opened your case to blow out Dust Bunnies and to assure yourself that all PCI Cards and RAM sticks are firmly seated, and that IDE ribbon cables and power connectors are firmly seated?
Are All your Fans spinning freely and vigorously?
Do you notice any "environmental" symptoms.
For instance, is it harder to get your machine up and running when you have many other appliances running in the building? Do you notice lights dimming, when the machine attempts to power up? Problems when the temperature it hot?
Is your Hard Drive particularly full, or do you have plenty of free space? (at least more than 25% free space)
Does the machine attempt to power up, but "hang" at any particular step in the boot process?
Please keep us posted with your progress.
Best Regards
