The problem I am experiencing is in 3 parts, so please be patient with me. On Tuesday, November 7, 2006, I listed an item for sale on eBay. Early next morning I received at my Yahoo account an email (supposedly from a potential buyer) who wanted to know the cost of shipping for said item I put for sale. This same message was posted within eBay itself in the "My Messages". Both had a RESPOND NOW button which is typical. From within Yahoo mail I clicked the button and it opened a window for me to sign-in to my account. After entering my username and password and pressing enter, the page opened up to the following web address: https://signin.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?co…&UsingSSL=1
This page read as follows:

======================================
I figured it to be a phishing spoof and didn't enter any info. But, after that, even typing in a new window "http://www.ebay.com" the same window kept appearing never allowing me to by-pass. I can't even open Live Help–it states that the page could not be found. This only happens from my home computer and not from other computers. I contacted eBay and reported it. I also changed my password. But the problem does not end there. I believe it installed some type of trojan or virus because not only does this happen but whenever I go to search on Yahoo or Google or anything, my internet speed has been reduced as well as a sporadic "hourglass" appearing even when I open a new window. At times it even closes all browser windows as well.

I ran TrendMicro, SmitRem, and Windows Defender but I don't believe it helped much. There's probably other things going on that I'm not even aware of. Please, if you can help, I would appreciate it.

Please help! I'm also beginning to notice my hard drive spinning and making sounds as when someone runs a scan when the computer is supposed to be idle.
Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1

O2 - BHO: ChangerBHO Class - {0D4C7057-EAD2-44C6-AD18-9092905F28F1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\atraceb.dll

O23 - Service: Microsoft authenticate service (MsaSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msasvc.exe

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Now, please go to:

Start –> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit < Enter > (or click OK)

In the Name column look for:

Microsoft authenticate service

< Double-click > it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: C:\WINDOWS\system32\msasvc.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\system32\msasvc.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)
Thank you Micah_6:8,

I've done what you instructed just now. I am now posting the new HJT log below.
