that ctfmon.exe is worrying me. i looked it up..this is what i found WinTasks Process Library ctfmon - ctfmon.exe - Process Information Process File: ctfmon or ctfmon.exe Process Name: Alternative User Input Services Click Here to Run a Free Scan for ctfmon.exe Related Errors Description: ctfmon.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft Office Suite. It activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the Microsoft Office XP Language Bar. This program is a non-essential system process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems. Note: ctfmon.execould also be a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

This is a valid file. It can be malware but not when it is at that location. If it is found elsewhere, it is bad.

Have you re-installed MediaPipe/p2pnetworks? We uninstalled this program earlier, but it's back. Do you use it? It is generally considered to be malware. Apart from this, your HijackThis log is clean.

Please let me know and post the AVG Anti-Spyware report.
no i didn't reinstall it, but one more thing that concerns me i opened up my C:WINDOWS folder and like..the first 100 or so files..the text under them is blue, and it says like $NtUninstall.. as the name and if it has something to do with something called Spuninst. is this bad?
The blue folders are normal. They contain the uninstall information for Windows Service Packs and updates. I'll get back to you later re. MediaPipe. Could you please let me know if you use this service and if you have paid them anything. Do you get any popups from them? I would still like to see an AVG Anti-Spyqware report!
grr my avg log is clean i forgot to save it..sorry. but i have a NEW problem. Something has infected my Winsock files or whatever, and now there are alot of websites i can't acces like this one (i am on a school computer) i tried winsock fix, didn't work. so..any ideas?
I have gone through your latest HijackThis log. You appear to have installed ZoneAlarm firewall. You already have Kaspersky Internet Security which includes a firewall. Running two firewalls will cause conflicts and problems. Please uninstall ZoneAlarm. Please let me know if this solves your problem and post a new HijackThis log.

I had already uninstalled ZoneAlarm a while ago, and this started after i had uninstalled it.

But magically everything is fine now.

hmm.
I'm glad that your problem has "magically" cleared up. However, if you want me to check that your computer is clean then please post a HijackThis log. If you don't let me have the reports and logs that I ask for in a timely manner, then I cannot help you. If you are still infected, the situation can change very quickly. It's no good me asking for two reports, only getting one and then waiting for a week before you come up with another problem or question and tell me the log was clean. I am happy to help you sort this out, but I do need your cooperation.

Thanks for posting the HijackThis log. I'm pleased to tell you that this is clean. As you have had some problems, I would like to do an online scan just to make sure.

Panda ActiveScan

Using Internet Explorer, please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Check your PC Online button
  • A new window will open…click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click Send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Please post the Panda ActiveScan report and a new HijackThis log.
scan was clean. :)

Hi altman.

Congratulations your computer is clean. :)

This is my standard 'speech' once someone's computer is clean. Forgive me if you already do some, or all, of the following.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore - You should disable and then re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point. You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here: Windows XP System Restore Guide
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Internet Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to 'Prompt'
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to 'Disable'
      • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to 'Disable'
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to 'Prompt'
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to 'Prompt'
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to 'Prompt'
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the OK button to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an Anti-Virus Software - It is very important that you have an anti-virus program running on your computer. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a list of some online and stand-alone anti-virus programs:
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
  • Update your Anti-Virus Software - It is imperative that you update your anti-virus software at least once a week (even more if you can). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  • Use a Firewall - I cannot stress how important it is that you use a firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a firewall in its default configuration can greatly lower your risk. For an article on firewalls, and a list of some available ones, see this link:
Computer Safety Online - Software Firewalls
  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Update regularly. This will ensure you always have the latest security updates installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • If they are not already present, I would recommend that you download and install some, or all, of the following programs (all free):
    • Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware and hijacker protection on your computer, alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here: Instructions for Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware
    • Ad-Aware SE Personal - Install and download Ad-Aware SE Personal. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti-virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here: Instructions for Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware
    • SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and websites into your Internet Explorer and/or Firefox browser settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here: Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware
  • Update all of these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected will reduce dramatically.
