okay..whenever i start up my computer..log on to my account. Lavasoft adwatch starts..and comes up saying this:

Warning!
An Attempt to alter a pretocted object has been detected.
(attempt to add a registry value)
Root:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key:SOFTWARE\Classes\regfile\shell\open\command
Value:
Data:
New Data:regedit.exe"%1"

————————
then it asks if i want to accept or block. obviously i clicked block. then basically everything gets wiped off of my computer. i start it back up in safe mode. do a system restore. and everything is back to how it was, working fine, accept adwatch still comes up saying this.

the little adwatch warning window won't go away..so i ctrl alt delete and end task and everything works fine, accept everytime i start the computer up it still comes up.

here is my log

Hi altman.

Sorry that you've had to wait for a response. Your post was probably overlooked because you posted a reply yourself. We look for logs with zero replies.

The registry change that Ad-Watch is warning about is valid. I have this exact entry in my registry. I suggest that you allow it to update.

————————————————————————————–

You are running HijackThis from your Desktop. We need to move this into its own folder so that its backup files are kept safe.
  • Click on 'Start', then 'My Computer'
  • Double click on your Local Disk (usually C:\).
  • Double click to open the 'Program Files' folder.
  • Right click on the right hand panel and select 'New' then 'Folder'.
  • Rename the new folder 'HijackThis'.
  • Locate the program file 'HijackThis.exe' on your desktopand right-click on it and select 'Cut'.
  • Open the new 'C:\Program Files\HijackThis' folder and paste the program into it.
Always run HijackThis from this new location (create a shortcut on your desktop).

————————————————————————————-

There are a couple of things that we need to fix in your latest HijackThis log, but I am a bit worried about this line in your first log:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ydsvgd - ydsvgd.dll (file missing)

You say that you "got rid of the trojan". Could you please let me know what you did to remove it.

I would like to check that everything has gone from this malware, before we do anything else.

Download haxfix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on haxfix.exe to install HaxFix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
  • Checkmark Create a desktop icon
  • Click Next
  • When the installation is completed, make sure that Launch HaxFix is ticked (checked)
  • Click Finish
A red "dos window" (dos box) will open:
  • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter (do not run any other options)
  • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt - (c:\haxfix.txt)
  • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it as a reply to this thread.
————————————————————————————

I would like to see a list of the programs installed on your computer. Please open HijackThis
  • Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button
  • Click on Open Uninstall Manager…
  • Click on Save List…
  • Save the text file to a convenient location
————————————————————————————

Please post, as a reply to this thread:
  • The HaxFix log (C:\haxfix.txt)
  • The HijackThis Uninstall list
  • A new HijackThis log
thank you for helping me. :)

Well the trojan was apparently deleted by Kapersky, but then again, i'm not an expert.

Hi altman.

I can see that Ad-Watch is now running. Presumably you have allowed the registry change and that problem is now solved. Can you confirm this please?

There's quite a lot to do in this post. If you have any problems, or questions, then stop and ask.

——————————————————————

The HaxFix log shows that there is still some of that infection on your system. Kaspersky has got rid of some of it, but not all.

Run HaxFix - Option 2 autofix
  • Click on 'Start', then 'My Computer'
  • Double click on your Local Disk (usually C:\).
  • Double click to open the 'Program Files' folder.
  • Open the folder haxfix and double click on fix.bat (or double click on fix.bat desktop icon)
  • Close all other open windows since this step requires a reboot
  • Select option 2. Run auto fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter
If an infection is found, you'll get a message to close all other open windows.
  • Close all open windows except the red dos window from haxfix and then press Enter
  • The computer will reboot
  • After reboot a logfile will open > (c:\haxfix.txt)
  • Post the contents of that logfile as a reply to this thread.
—————————————————————-

Please disable Ad-Watch as it may interfere with our 'fix'.
  • Click right mouse button on the Ad-Watch icon in taskbar and select Restore Ad-Watch
  • There are two checkboxes: active and automatic
  • Uncheck both boxes (red X)
Don't forget to restore Ad-Watch once we have finished.

—————————————————————–

Please go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs, if they are present. Let me know if they're not there.

DownloadManager
p2pnetworks
ewido anti-spyware 4.0
(This has been replaced by AVG Anti-Spyware (see below)

—————————————————————-

Run HijackThis and click Scan and then check (tick) the following, if present (don't worry if any are missing):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MediaPipe P2P Loader] "C:\Program Files\p2pnetworks\mpp2pl.exe" /H
O16 - DPF: {2F003D51-39FD-4D18-9016-95CF70B92ABE} - http://download.movienetworks.com/install/US/altpmtscab.cab
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.real.com/13fea82cea79c8…ip/RdxIE601.cab

Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Make sure that only the above items are checked and then click on Fix checked.

Click on Start then My Computer and find the following folders, shown highlighted in red. Delete them if found but don't worry if they're missing.

C:\Program Files\p2pnetworks\ <– Folder
C:\Program Files\MediaPipe\ <– Folder

Reboot your computer

—————————————————————–

AVG Anti-Spyware:

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open. Do not run a scan yet.

If the program does not automatically update itself during installation, or you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:
  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
You will need to change the following settings:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is… click active. This should now change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click the Scanner icon at the top and then click the Settings Tab.
  • Under How to act? click Recommended actions and select Quarantine from the menu.
You can now close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not scan yet.

You will need to reboot your computer into Safe Mode for the next steps. It would be a good idea for you to print these instructions, as you will not have access to the internet.

Important: If you have an always on connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.

Boot to Safe Mode. To do this:
  • Restart your computer.
  • Continually tap the F8 button as your computer is booting (a menu appears).
  • Use up-arrow key to select Safe Mode and press Enter.
Close all open windows and then start AVG Anti-Spyware, which you downloaded earlier
  • Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
  • Click on the Settings tab.
    • Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected.
    • Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Reports - Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
    • Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan your computer.
  • When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below:
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine
    • Important: Click on the Apply all Actions button (this must done before saving the report).
    • When the program has finished, it will display the message All actions have been applied.
    • Then click the Save Scan Report button.
    • Click the Save Report as button.
    • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Right-click the AVG Tray Icon and select Exit.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

Hi altman.

Thanks for posting the logs. Your HijackThis log is clean. The AVG Anti-Spyware scan has identified one thing that we need to get rid of. First, however, we need to update your version of Java.

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 9.
  • Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  • Click on the link named Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Reboot your computer
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer
————————————————————————-

I would like you to run HaxFix Option #1 again to check that we're clear.
  • Double-click on the HaxFix desktop icon
  • A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
  • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter (do not run any other options)
  • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt (c:\haxfix.txt)
  • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread.

AVG Anti-Spyware:

When you ran the scan, you didn't click on Apply all Actions before saving the report (see the comment in red, below). This means that AVG identified items but did not quarantine them. Please check the following settings:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is… click active. This should now change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click the Scanner icon at the top and then click the Settings Tab.
  • Under How to act? click Recommended actions and select Quarantine from the menu.
Please click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button. The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.

Close all open windows and then start AVG Anti-Spyware
    • Important: Click on the Apply all Actions button ( *** This must done before saving the report ***).

Please post, as a reply to this thread:

  • The AVG Anti-Spyware report
  • A new HijackThis log

Hi altman.

I deleted all the tracking cookies and sent the two other ones to quarantine directly after i did the scan. they are still there.

Well done. :) That should have sorted it out. The HaxFix log is clean, so things are looking good. I would still like to see an AVG Anti-Spyware report and a new HijackThis log please. It's important that we make sure everything has gone for good.
