I installed Norton Internet Secuity (2006) last week, replacing NIS (2005). When I connected to the internet to run Liveupdate, I started getting messages from Norton saying 'Scanning Message 1 of 1', sometimes there were 10 or 12 of these messages on the screen at a time, I also started receiving failed delivery messages from Norton Proxy Server (again lots of them), from which it appeared that the messages being sent were spam.

I could find no viruses on the computer and Norton were no help at all, but my ISP gave me your web address.

I ran Adaware, spybot and AVG and Adaware told me that my computer was infected with Win32.TrojanProxy.Agent.dl

AVG reported a number of infections such as Goldun. I deleted all these infections and on connecting to the internet I found the problem apparently solved. I closed the computer, re-started in safe mode and ran Adaware again and found nothing.

Unfortunately, the next time I switched the computer on Norton reported it had detected Trojn.Abwiz.F and deleted it, but on connecting to the internet my computer was again sending out spam messages at a great rate, exactly as before. I disconected and ran Norton, Adaware and AVG again in safe mode. Adaware again found Win32.TrojanProxy. Agent.dl and I again deleted it. Norton and AVG found nothing.

I cannot be sure which trojan is causing the problem but whichever it is I would like rid of it - permanently, and I'd appreciate any help or advice available.

Thank You
Welcome to the forum :wavey:

If all the malware entries in your log are actually present, we've got our hands full.
:(

Because of the banking references in the "O1-HOSTS" entries, there may be some kind of "banking trojan" aboard. One that attempts to steal banking/credit card info. Please stop using the machine for financial transactions until we can get it cleaned up.

I haven't investigated every malware entry in the log.

Some that I have looked into also suggest "keyloggers" may be present.

Needless to say, your system has probably been totally compromised.

Any information typed, viewed, or saved on it may have already been sent to nefarious sources.

I want to check some things before beginning any cleaning operations.

Run Hijack This!.

Click on Open Misc Tools section

To the right of Generate Startuplist log, there are two boxes.

Check them both, then click Generate Startuplist log.

"Copy/paste" the startuplist log into this thread.

Thank you for your help. though it's not so good to hear that the computer is probably totally compromised! The startuplist log is as follows:

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
I followed the instructions given. On the Hijack This system scan there was no item: 04-HKCU\Run:[tskdir]c:\WINDOWS\System32\taskdir.exe Also when I came to delet files in safe mode I failed to find the files listed with the exception of: C:\WINDOWS\sYSTEM32\taskdir.exe Other than that there were no problems, and as far as I can see the computer is functioning normally. Many thanks.
I'd like to have you run a few more programs to be sure all the malware is gone. Please post a new HijackThis! log if you wish to continue. :)
If you don't mind, I'm certainly happy to make sure it's all gone.

1. A new HijackThis! log.

2. The report from AVG Anti-Spyware.
It's looking good. I already had ATP-cleaner and AVG Anti-spyware 7.5 on the computer, as I tried the self help approach first.

An updated AVG found nothing. I did have a slight problem as I think ATF may have wiped the internet password, but that was easily corrected. the Hijack this log is as follows:
