Trying to disable a Hewlett Packard service in Msconfig, I noticed another startup item, NvCpl. I googled it and its apparently a process registered to the W32.SpyBot.S Worm and causes shutdown by overflow. It was listed as both a virus and a trojan. However, Trojanhunter didn't find it, or anything else for that matter, and I haven't experienced any shutdowns I didn't initiate. McAfee also just popped up with Malformed Archive, but that's a problem for another thread. Thanks in advance
Please Post the entire line that names you "NvCpl" item.

NvCpl.dll is a legitimate item assisting you nVidia video driver.
NvCpl.exe is a trojan and should be removed.

Since you used Trojan Hunter (presumably updated before running) it probably noticed that the item was indeed NvCpl.dll and was legitimate.

But to be sure……. Post back with the entire line from your MSCONFIG StartUp list.

Your original post doesn't give us enough information, specifically (.dll vs .exe)

Best Regards
