Hi, I'm back again witha new problem it seems. Upon reboot I get the following message ( c\windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpectedly with staus code 1073741819 ) Did some searching on the net and it stated it is the" Sasser worm"? For some reason Norton's didn't pick it up and I ran Microsofts and Symantecs tools to fix it but still get the message occasionally when rebooting. I have run Ewido and provided their log as well. Any help is appreciated.

Just an update on my problems. My computer crashes now after approx 1-2 minutes after I get to my desktop settings. Seems like when all the programs have launched it crashes and gives me the blue screen of death and the dumping of physical memory etc. The only way I can access this forum as we speak is in "Safe Mode".
Another Update…. After attempting to access computer in normal mode I removed Norton antivirus and Installed Kaspersky. Somwhere in this proccess I crashed the computer and had to repair Windows XP from my installation disk as C\windows\system32\config\system file error kept coming up. Upon completing the repair I proceeded to take the following steps. Installed Kaspersky, Ewido and Ad Aware Ran kaspersky Defragged hard drive disk cleanup Ran SpyBot Ran Ewido Ran Ad Aware Ran a new hjt log I wll provide the following logs starting with the Ewido log done this morning and another Ewido log done later in the evening.

Just tried to install updates for Windows and system crashed to blue screen, this was an issue that I encountered prior to repairing the c\windows\system32\config\system corrupt/missing file with my installation disc. The shutdown was initiated by NT Authority/system in 60 seconds ( the system process c\windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819) message appears randomly upon my reboots as well.
So at this point my computer is continually getting the blue screen( crashing) after loading my settings in normal mode. When I load in Safe Mode i can access this page but it seems like i have a time limit then IE cannot acess the internet afterwards. I then have to reboot into Safe Mode to continue accessing this page. This is getting really frustrating and I know that the staff are extremely busy, any help would be appreciated
So here's an update of what I know… My system seems to run o.k. as long as Windows Installer v3.1 is not installed. While I had it installed some of the updates would cause my comp to crash and get this message. The shutdown was initiated by NT Authority/system in 60 seconds ( the system process c\windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819) I updated most of the updates and the two that will crash my comp everytime are Windows Update KB920872 and KB922582. Between this post and my last entry I tried System Recovery with no success either as it states it has failed in it's attempt. So with Windows Installer v3.1 removed and my Windows Updates disabled my comp. seems to have stabilized. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome, just for your own information, we search for logs with zero replies to work, you have posted so many times that it took you out of that catagory so thats why your log was most likely missed, on the upside, you posted good information.

I am not looking at anything earth shattering on your log as far as a virus or malware go, you still have part of symantec running in the back ground that could be causing you problems.
  • Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
  • Scroll down to NProtectService
  • Double Click that service to open it.
  • Click on Stop Service.
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • OK your way out of the program.
****Do the same for ScriptBlocking Service
  • Open HJT > Misc Tools > Delete an NT Service
  • Type in NProtectService
  • Then click on OK, it will ask you to reboot, do so.
Delete a NT Service , remove this one also type in SBService

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these and click on Fix Checked.

Run this system cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Then do this.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.
Post a new HJT log and if none of the above worked, I will direct you to some windows support sites that are better dealing with this sort of issue.

Ken :D
Thanks for responding Ken..

After using HJT to remove NProtectService and for ScriptBlocking Service seperately and completing the reboot process I had the same message as before.

The shutdown was initiated by NT Authority/system in 60 seconds ( the system process c\windows\system32\services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819)

The third time I rebooted was a good one.

These two entries are related to symantec so I removed them.

O16 - DPF: {01012101-5E80-11D8-9E86-0007E96C65AE} (SupportSoft Script Runner Class) -

The 023 entries and C:|progra ….etc files were not present.(lol, I don't know how to make the squiggly)

Here is my log

So what are my next steps?
Should I try and d\l updatesd again?
How do I know if System restore is operable?
Will await your expertise before trying…

Thank You
JustBruin :D Those 023 entries were removed by HJT Delete an NT Service, just doublechecking when I had you look for them. Your HJT log is Clean, Ewido found nothing bad  A couple of Options for you. Boot from your windows CD and get into the Recovery Console and choose the R for Repair and see if that makes a difference. If no help, run this free online virus scanner from Panda, it wont fix anything but will give us a report, post the report into your next reply. If all is ok with Panda and your issure is not resolved, I am going to direct you to some windows support sites that deal with this sort of issue. Ken :D
Hey Ken, Did the Recovery option with Windows and tried to do online scan with Panda but the scan was taking an abnormal amount of time so I cancelled it. Tried to get the Updates again with no change. Updates and/or Windows Installer seem to crash my comp to the blue screen of death everytime. So if you would be so kind as to forward me on to your proposed support options. Other than that I'm thinking of just re-installing windows and see if that would help. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work.
JustBruin :D

Another option is to bypass the Recovery Console and proceed just like you were going to install windows , except at that point you can choose to repair rather than do a complete install, it will install windows right on top of your current installation, you will need YOUR OWN CD for this as you may have to reactivate windows when done.

If that didnt fix it, here ya go….

Thanks for you assistance Ken….Got tired of searching and trying to figure out what was up with my comp so I did a re-install of windows. Lost all my data but for the few important ones that i backed up on disk. Good news is that the re-install seems to have worked as I was able to download all the updates and the system seems to be running fine. Thanks for your time and if you want I'll post another log for you to look at. You might see something that's changed other that my antivirus program. Kudus to you, phil and this site!
