Much like a variety of other websites, it simply will not load. Still very slow and will no let me access frequenlty visited websites such as cnn, hotmail, etc.

What exactly happens? Does the page just hang? Do you get any error messages like "page cannot be displayed?

Please register (it's free, don't worry) with PCPitStop and run the full tests here.
When the tests are complete, a results page will pop up. Click "Share these results with TechExpress" on the left-hand side. Then copy the URL provided and post (reply) with it here for me.

Get Updated Drivers (Touchstone Driver Agent)

Please click the link and follow the instructions to run the scan.
Let me know if any bad drivers were found.
Susan, Should I throw in the towel? PCPitStop will not load at all. The virus appears to prohibit me from visiting pages that were in my internet cache one week ago and will also not load many of the spyware/virus detection websites which would provide a fix. And yes, when the pages don't load it says: "page cannot be displayed? Perhaps I should just send it to the shop. What do you think? Thanks again. Pat
Click Tools, then Internet Options, and then click the Delete Files button.
Select the option to Delete all offline content, and then click OK.

Navigate to your C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc and look for the Host file
Once you have found your HOSTS file, right-click on the HOSTS file, and then select Open. You will be asked to choose a program to use. Select Notepad, but make sure you that you do NOT turn on any option to always use the same program.

Anything else that appears in your HOSTS file without an # at the beginning, apart from the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line, should be viewed with suspicion. The quickest way to test for HOSTS file involvement is to right click the HOSTS file, then select Rename. Add the letter X to the beginning or end of the file name and then ok your changes.

Mine contains the following:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a "#" symbol.
# For example:
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost

Click Start, then Run and type CMD in the dialogue box that appears, and then click OK. Type netsh winsock reset into the DOS window that appears.

Please download WinHelp2002's DelDomains by right-clicking on the following link, and choosing "Save Target As": or if you are using Firefox "Save Page As"
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf
Save the file to the desktop. Then go to the desktop, right click on DelDomains.inf, and choose Install. You may not see any noticeable changes or prompts; this is normal.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection

Please let me know if anything improved.
No change. A new piece to the puzzle, however. My wife's computer is also having similar problems in that it will not allow certain websites to load (we're both on the same wireless home network. However, a virus scan does not show trojan, vcodec, zcodec, as it does on my computer. My wife is able to access all websites while on the wireless network outside of our home. Any ideas? Thanks Pat
I will have to ask about this. It does not sound malware related then. How do you connect then to the Internet at home? What kind of router do you have? Wonder about firewall set up?
Hi pwconnor,

I received the following advice so let's try it.

Do you still obtain "page cannot be displayed" when you try to go to the following?
http://pcpitstop.com/

What happens if you enter the following?
64.29.201.21

=======================

IF wife's computer can access sites on a different router, but not the home one, then have them try to connect directly to cable /DSL modem with his computer if possible. If it works directly from cable modem/DSL and not router, then problem lies with router.

I went back and reset my router/modem and ran some of the programs you mentioned earlier in our work. Things are running much better now and I can access all websites. I just have a problem with certain pictures on websites not loading now. Thanks for helping me out, I appreciate it. Pat
Hi Pat,

About the pictures, does this occur on both computers now or just one? Does a red x appear where picture does not load?

WeatherBug is installed on your computer. It is technically not spyware but the free version is adware supported. Its removal is recommended, but it is up to you whether you want to do so.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\WeatherBug\MiniBugTransporter.dll -> Adware.Minibug

An ad free alternative is Weather Pulse:
http://tropicdesigns.net/weatherpulse.php

In order to avoid future problems with Weatherbug, make sure the program is not running before uninstalling it.
If there is a WeatherBug icon in the system tray (in the lower right hand corner of the screen) right-click on it and choose "Exit WeatherBug" or "Terminate Weatherbug".
Once the program is closed, then remove it easily from the Add or Remove Programs section of the Control Panel by following these steps:

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
In the list of currently installed programs, select:
WeatherBug

Now let's reset your restore points.

Click Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > SystemRestore

Press OK. Choose 'Create a Restore Point' then Next. Name it and press 'Create' then when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click 'Close'

Next go to Start Menu > Run > type

cleanmgr

click OK, when Disk Cleanup opens go to the 'More Options' tab and press 'Cleanup' on the system restore area which will remove all the restore points except the one we just created. To close Disk Cleanup and remove the Temporary Internet Files detected in the initial scan click OK then choose Yes on the confirmation window.
Yes, I do get red x's on some pictures but 99% do load now. The only difference between the two computers is that mine is having trouble playing videos. For instance, it will not play any videos on CNN.com. Thanks Path
