I am experiencing what seems to be a very slow internet connection considering I use a cable connection. Also, my hard drive never quite seems to be done doing…whatever it is that it needs to do…light always blinking here or there. I was beginning to think I was paranoid about having spyware at all, however, after scanning with mcafee, AVG, spybot, and adaware, i finally downloaded escan, which found 2 instances of spyware, which were promptly removed. Unfortunately, my connection actually appears to have been made slower now, perhaps by a damaged registry? Here is my hijackthis log. If you can offer any other help as well, it would be much appreciated. Thank you. Hi imnotdavidxnsx! I need to take some time to look over your Hijack This log to come up with a fix. Please remember that I am an undergraduate which means I need to have my posts to you checked by a teacher or moderator to make sure I'm giving you the proper instructions. This process won't take long and I thank you for your patience. I'll be back with you soon.

Thank you very much. This same problem has already sat for days in other forums without a response…so I'm in appreciation of really any acknowledgement at this point, haha.
Hi imnotdavidxnsx. You are running Hijack This from your desktop. Could you please make a new folder for it on your desktop (name the folder HJT if you wish) and move HijackThis.exe into that folder and then run the program from there. If it's more convenient you could also place a shortcut to it on your desktop once you have moved it. The idea is to have it in it's own folder.

After you do that please run the program again and post a new log. Since I am working with you here at TomCoyote could you please let the other forums know that you are receiving help elsewhere? Do that by either deleting your posts in those forums or contacting the forum's moderators/administrators.

Hi imnotdavidxnsx. I'm sorry that took so long. I would like to see a couple of different logs from you. First I would like you to rename HijackThis.exe to scanner.exe. There is some malware that can hide from a Hijack This scan and renaming is important.

Second please do the following:

Step 1.
==========

- Please download F-Secure's trial Blacklight from here
- Print out the help page for guidance. It will be found here
- Click the "I Accept" button at the the license agreement
- Click the "Download" button to start the download
- Save it to your Desktop

Step 2.
==========

- Double-click the blbeta.exe file on your Desktop
- Select the "I Accept the agreement" at the license agreement, then click "Next"
- Make sure all open programs and windows are closed (including this IE window) before clicking the "Scan" button
- Click "Scan
- When the animated graphics, in the bottom right-hand corner, disappears, click "Next"
- A text log file will appear on your Desktop when the scan is complete. It will start with fsbl-xxxxxx.txt (ie: fsbl-20051017165931.log)
- Paste the contents of that log back here.

Next I would like to see a different type of log from Hijack This (using scanner.exe of course):
  • Run Hijackthis, now renamed to scanner.exe
  • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
  • Press the Save list button. It will open a Notepad file.
  • Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
  • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.
Please post back with the new Hijack This log (as scanner.exe), the Blacklight log, and the uninstall list.

Could you also tell me how long it's been since you've defragmented your hard drive?

In addition when I told you about posting back to the forums you had posted to before I meant any other forums outside of TomCoyote as you referenced. It would be nice for you to let them know you are receiving help here to free up their people as this is a very busy operation. It's only asked out of consideration to the other forums.

KB886185 Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 KB912067 Yahoo! Messenger I've had the computer for barely over a month, but have not defragmented yet. An alaysis shows my hard drive to be less than 10% fragmented. I tried doing a boot time defragment with system mechanic about a week ago but it didn't work. I figured I had to do a disk check first and fix errors, but I tried a full surface scan at night and woke up in the morning to find I still had 14 hours to go, so I cancelled it.
OK, please run Hijack This again and have it do a system scan only. Put a check (tick) next to the following:

Thank you so much for all this information. FORTUNATELY I no longer have this problem to deal with, as my hard drive internally flew apart at 6am this morning, while I was sleeping. Gateway is sending me a new hard drive, which should arrive in 3-5 business days. In the mean time, I will be smashing any and all malware containing hard drive sectors with a hammer in my front yard.
Thanks for letting me know. I knew there was something very wrong when it took 14+ hours to do a surface scan. Best of luck to you and if you need more assistance in the future we'll be here.
