a family member (who has had their knuckles caned) opened a zip containing trojan PSW.generic2.IJS

AVG popup window showed it in C:windows/hide_evr2.sys, I ran AVG in safe mode and the virus did not show up, I was unable to locate it.

then did a system restore to the previous day, at first the AVG scan showed nothing, then virus popped up again in the c:/system volume information folder, AVG moved it to the vault, then it appeared again in the same folder under a different name, AVG again moved this to vault and deleted both files.

Since then complete scans by AVG have shown no virus,
also downloaded Prevx1 and it also shows nothing,

computer is running a bit slower than usual and I'm worried there could be something else lurking.

Would appreciate help as I do my banking online and currently feeling a tad paranoid
BTW I don't store my passwords on the computer, but worried about next time I log in

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein
OK, I now have a clean restore, and am off to get the recommended programmes. I am currently running the paid version of AVG 7.5 antivirus with Kerio firewall I appreciate the step by step instructions too, very easy to understand for an average user like me, you've been great!
