Hi Don

That is the hidden hijacker. Try this.

Use the Registrar Lite program you downloaded earlier. Navigate to (you can type the line directly into reglite address bar and hit 'go'):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

Rename the Windows key in the left pane to something else - for example:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NotWindows

(You should now be able to clear the hidden contents of the AppInit_DLLs value in the right pane without being undone by the hidden process.)

DoubleClick "Appinit_Dlls" value on right pane and erase the data on the lower box (in value field):

"C:\WINDOWS\System32\sqlipmn.dll", hit 'apply' and 'ok' to set.

Rename NotWindows back to Windows in the left pane, close Registrar Lite and reboot the computer

If all goes well the hidden process will not run at startup and you should now be able to find and *see* the sqlipmn.dll in C:\WINDOWS\System32.

Run findall.bat again and post a new log. Let me know if you can now see it.
Daemon, Let me get this all typed out and will include the findall log in a couple of minutes. I have to type out the steps I took and hope I didn't mess up. Back in 5 Don
OK, this is what I did:
The steps in your last message down to "Run findall.bat again and post a new log. Let me know if you can now see it.
(I was able to do all through renaming NotWindows boack to windows, closed )registrar lite and rebooted the computer._ Then instead of running findall.bat again and posting a new log, my brain took a fart and I went back to the previous instructions on the copylock and proceeded to :
Open copylock and set up options and followed instructions down to renaming file SQLIPMN.DLX, hit OK and apply tabs.
Was not asked to restart the computer but I did.
Then navigated to System32 and deleted the SQLIPMN.DLX file.

Please tell me I did right (fingers crossed).
Anyway, here is HJT and Findall.bat logs

Well done - looks like you nailed it :D

We need to re-enable the BHO's. Click Start>run type regedit >OK

Expand this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects <– right-click that subfolder >Permissions>Advanced and check the 'inherit ..permissions' lower box, hit 'ok'.

Then if necessary reset your Homepage with IE (Tools>Internet Options). Rescan with HJT and post a new log.
Hi Daemon,
OK, done and HJT log follows. IE start page stayed as desired.
Also was able to download and install SpywareBlaster so looks like somehow all that cr*p was blocking it or damaging it on download.
If this turns out ok, then I need to get to work on startup as computer shows 46 running processes.
Don

reformatted your log - Daemon
That's a clean log - well done :D

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?
 WHEW! Thanks don't really cover it but thank you very very much Daemon (and K3DC) and whoever else might have helped out on this mess. I have read Tony's stuff, I always had Spybot S&D and Ad-aware as well as firewall and anti - virus running but have now added SpywareBlaster (finally downloaded without error, so guess was being prevented by all the cr*p?) and Browser Hijack Blaster. Will be re-setting IE security settings as soon as I post this. BTW Daemon, I ran S&D and ad-aware after I saw this message and did custom in depth search and it found 15 items that were c**lW*b related and asked it to remove/quarantine them and they have not showed up again (after three re-boots and re-scans.) Maybe residual files and registry entries?? Have the ad-aware log of them saved in case you maybe want to look at it??? Let me know, 'K? Looks like I have about five donations to make, again, thank you very much for being here and helping the 'puter semi-literate like me. Don :~)>
You're welcome - glad we could help :D

Cleaning up with Ad-Aware is a good idea after this one to get rid of the last remnants.

We just need to reinstate the security settings on the key we renamed. Click Start>Run type regedit>OK. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

and right-click the key. UNcheck: "inherit permissions" box,-> Select COPY on next prompt. (That will restore last saved settings in database)

-Hilite "Everyone" (group/only!)->Select-> REMOVE!

-Hit 'Apply and 'ok' on all check boxes.

Sample pictures of correct/incorrect settings have been added to http://www10.brinkster.com/expl0iter/freeatlast/PVtool.htm

Let me know how you get on.
Hmmmmmhh, Went and looked at the pictures of correct/incorrect settings, but I don't have that same *picture* when I navigate to destination. I don't see any entry for "Everyone". I checked : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows advanced permissions and no entry for *everyone*. There are however, two entries for all the different listings there, as if the listings had been copied and pasted? Then I case I had done something wrong in the navigations before, I checked: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Windows advanced permissions and no entry for *everyone* Neither one has "Everyone" listed. I did notice, however, while navigating to those two destinations that I still have a folder in there named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NOTWINDOWS Did I miss a step or do something wrong? I tried to printscreen and save to paint and copy from there so I could show you but although I could get the screen up in paint, was unable to figure out how to copy it into this message. Will await your reply. Don
You should have renamed Notwindows back to Windows as part of the earlier sequence - can you remember if you did that?. Have you got a Windows and Notwindows key now? What is in that key?
Yeah, I thought we did too. OK, let me go look and see but I think there is a NotWindows, a Windows and a WindowsNT that will also lead down to a Windows. Don't suppose there is any way I can copy the complete key off and post it here is there? If not, will just look at each key and type off what is in them and post here in a bit. Don
OK, this is what I found, OK, key(s) goe like this, in order of ascendency: First key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NOTWINDOWS\CurrentVersion and under that is: +App Management +App Paths +Applets Bits +Control Panel +Controls Folder CSCSettings +DateTime +Dynamic Directory +Explorer. Proceeding down the tree, second key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and under that is the above +(s) plus, starting with the +Explorer: +Explorer Extensions H323TSP +Hints +Installer +Internet Settings IPConfTSP MCD +MediaContentIndex +ModuleUsage +MS-DOS Emulation +Nls OemStartMenuData OptimalLayout +policies +Reinstall +Reliability +Run Run- Run-Disabled RunOnce RunOnceEx RunServices RunServices- +Setup SharedDLLs +Shell Extensions +ShellCompatibility +ShellScrap ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad +SideBySide SMDEn +StillImage +Syncmgr +Telephony ThemeManager +Themes +Unimodem +Uninstall +URL +WebCheck +WindowsUpdate and Help, HtmlHelp, ITStorage and Shell which are not under the Current Version part of the tree but are part of the Windows sub-tree like CurrentVersion is. Proceeding down the tree, part three is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT and under that is: +CurrentVersion (which when opened contains): +Accessibility AeDebug +Asr +Classes Compatibility Compatibility32 +Console Drivers drivers.desc +Drivers32 EFS Embedding Event Viewer +File Manager Font Drivers FontDPI FontMapper Fonts FontSubstitutes GRE_Initialize +Hotfix +ICM +Image File Execution Options IME Compatibility IMM +IniFileMapping LanguagePack LastFontSweep MCI MCI Extensions +MCI32 Midimap ModuleCompatibility +Network +NetworkCards +OpenGLDrivers +Perflib +PerHwIdStorage Ports Prefetcher +Print +ProfileList related.desc +SeCEdit ServicePack +Setup +Storage +SvcHost +SystemRestore +Terminal Server +Time Zones +Tracing +Type 1 Installer Userinstallable.drivers Windows +Winlogon +WOW WPAEvents (The Windows in this third part of the tree is a folder without any subfolders.) Will await your instructions. Computer seems to be working fine except I just have too many processes running. Don
 I'm not sure what has happened there. If everything is running OK then leave it as is. Do you want some help regarding the running processes?
Hi Daemon, I'm not sure either. I had printed off all the instruction pages and was putting check marks next to each step as I did them and there is a check mark next to where you said to rename NotWindows back to windows in the left pane and then close registrar lite and reboot the computer. So, just leave as is and not run registrar lite and rename the notwindows to windows, right? And yeppers, am looking at processes and startup lists now from SpyBotS&D and trying to figure what is what. If I want help with the processes, should I start a new thread in SpyBot S&D forum or just start a new thread here? Thanks Don
