 Not sure what is going on but hard drive is really working and I am not doing anything but monitoring this site and thread. Going to shut down and boot back up in one hour to see if there has been any response. Hoping. Don
I'm in the UK so we'll have to deal with the time zone issues as best we can. In the Find-All folder, run the 'regsrch.vbs' file and enter this name into the search: ekmna.dll and proceed to search. It'll run for a while and generate report as well. From the report menu, select all, copy, name it as 'report.txt' and save it in the same folder.

Immediately when done click Start>run type regedit >OK

Expand this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects <– right-click that subfolder >Permissions>Advanced and un-check the 'inherit ..permissions' lower box, hit 'ok' and 'remove' on the prompts.

Next, expand this:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Filter

Search for these two subfolders (only)
text/plain
text/html

Right-click them one at a time, and un-check the 'inherit permissions' from security the same way.

Reboot when done, run HJT, findall.bat and post the log along with the report.txt' you previously saved.
Hi Daemon,
Understood on time frames, will deal with it. Will be up for @hour now and then back @4 PM my time.
Help greatly!! appreciated.

OK, followed instructions on 'regsrch.vbs'; my NAV did not like it - kept halting computer (four times) and asking me to stop or allow once the running of what it called malicious scripts when I ran the 'regsrch.vbs'. I told it to allow once all prompts from 'run',,'findfile',,'getfile',, and 'delete file'.

Then I followed instructions for expanding keys, prompts received that I was blocking access to all on computer except owner, clicked ok on all prompts.
Then went back to re-check and see if done correctly and cannot access "browser helper objects" ; I get an error stating " cannot open browser helper objects, error while opening key"
I could however access the text/plain and text/html and the permissions are unchecked.

Well done - that's real progress. The BHO's appear to be disabled now so we can proceed - not sure why you couldn't check - we can pick that up later. Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad. Name as 'Fix.reg'. Save as All Files on the desktop.

Close notepad and double click on the file. When asked to merge to the registry say yes. Then with only HJT running, have it remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Reboot, find and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ekmna.dll

Run findall.bat, regsrch.vbs and HJT again and post new logs from all.
OK, followed instructions. BUT do not know what to enter as search string for the regsrch.vbs. And I know my NAV is going to do the "malicious script detected - high risk. Your computer is halted and needs to do something about this script. " thing again. And so I need to know what search string to enter in the regsrch.vbs scan and is it ok to allow each warning to run once?

Meanwhile, here is the findall and hjt logs

Will be awaiting your reply, thanks

Please run the vbs with this again: ekmna.dll - just ignore Norton for now. If it identifies any entries, post them here if not move to this stage:

Click here and download 'CopyLock'. Unzip it then click here to download and install Registrar Lite. You will need both tools. Reboot first and remain offline - print this page.

Open Copylock and set up these options:

-Check: 'Show Source paths'
-Check: 'Allow Downgrade'

Click the 'Add' tab->'Files to rename' In the 'Look in..' dialogue box navigate to your WINDOWS\System32 directory and stop there! (*you will not see the file!). Copy and paste into the 'File name' field: SQLIPMN.DLL

Hit 'Add'. If you get an error here: "File not found" stop and get back to me.

If it works, in the result (destination) erase entire output (copy of…) and paste this instead: SQLIPMN.DLX. Hit 'OK' and in main box menu hit the 'Apply' tab.

You will be asked to restart the computer. Do so right away. Next navigate to System32 and delete the SQLIPMN.DLX file, as it'll now be visible.

Run HJT and findall.bat, post new logs for the final steps.
OK, trying to run regsrch.vbs, as soon as it starts my NAV comes up with: Malicious script detected high risk your computer is halted and needs to do something about this script Object Windows Script host Shell object activity Run File C:\unzipped\find-all\regsrch.vbs choices are Stop this script (recommended) Allow this activity once Allow the entire script once Quarantine this script Authorize this script So, what do I do? I know from when I ran it before I did the Allow this activity once and it popped up this warning for Run, Find, Get and Delete Standing by. Don
Oops, sorry, should have completed the statement. When it popped up each warning, I allowed this activity once for each warning until it was finished and then I posted the previous log of its results. Should I do that again? Don
here is the regsrch.vbs log, found one. ; RegSrch.vbs © Bill James ; Registry search results for string "ekmna.dll" 5/6/2004 12:41:41 AM ; NOTE: This file will be deleted when you close WordPad. ; You must manually save this file to a new location if you want to refer to it again later. ; (If you save the file with a .reg extension, you can use it to restore any Registry changes you make to these values.) [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-677485609-14215 31899-4282951562-1006\Software\Microsoft\ Search Assistant\ACMru\5603] "000"="ekmna.dll"
Saw you left the topic, I have to go too. Will check back in here in @7 hours and see what is up. Will not do the steps with CopyLock or Registrar Lite until I have heard from you. Don
Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad. Name as 'Fix2.reg'. Save as All Files on the desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-677485609-1421531899-4282951562-1006 Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603]

Close notepad and double click on the file. When asked to merge to the registry say yes.

Then try the Copylock approach - let me know.
Hi Daemon, OK, Fix2.reg merged. Ran Copylock, and got the error *file not found* when I hit add. (I have installed the registrar lite also and was off-line when I ran the copylock) so am stopped awaiting instructions from you. NOTE : I ran disk defragmenter last night as system was getting down to like 70+% fragmented, is now at 99% and when I ran it, there was one file that did not defragment and it was: 3 fragments 56kb in size \Windows\system32\sqlipmn.dll yet you are right, when I navigated to the WIN\sys32 directory for the *look in* dialogue box, I didn't see the SQLIPMN.dll file. So anyway, am off for a while to run errands, will check back later to see what you want me to do next. Confused frustrated Don
