Hello,

I am having the most difficult problem trying to get rid of the trojan.linkoptimizer virus. I've tried to download the removal kit from prevex.com but it will not allow me to display anything in internet explorer. Then I tried to download the linkoptimizer removal kit from symantec but it will not display anything in the internet browser. But the funny part is that when I type in anything else that doesn't have anything to do with this virus..it will pop up. I managed to use another computer and download the removal kit from prevex.com but the program will not run on my computer. On top of that my norton anti virus is somehow msysterously not installed properly. which it was working fine before this problem. I have no idea what to do. Any help would be great.

carbon.

here is my hjt log.

Welcome to the forum. :wavey:

If the Prevx tool won't run - you're "up the creek without a paddle".
:(

Please download the Gromozon Removal Tool from here:

Gromozon Removal Tool

Save it where you can find it.

DO NOT RUN IT YET.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Please run the Gromozon Removal Tool, and follow the prompts..

Boot normally.

Please download FixWareout from one of these links:
Fixwareout.exe
Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O1 - Hosts: 66.98.136.25 auto.search.msn.com

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

* Run Fixwareout on the desktop.
* Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
* The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
* You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
* Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
* Once the desktop loads a text will open (report.txt). We'll need that in a bit.

"Copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

Also open this file with Notepad:

C:\fixwareout\report.txt

And paste it's contents into your next post.

:)
I really appreciate everything but I can't get that removal toolkit from prevx.com to run. So it looks like I will be formatting my computer. You have been very helpful.
From your first post:

I managed to use another computer and download the removal kit from prevex.com but the program will not run on my computer.

Will it run in "safe mode"?
I tried to run it in safe mode but it will not. I would double click on it and nothing would happen. Then I tried to right click on it and run it but nothing will pop up.
