Hello all. I am new to this forum. So let me know if If give enough info. Over the last few days I've downloaded some updates to programs such as itunes and have done some port forwarding in order to get bit torrent to download quickly. My IE started getting sluggish and kept going to the Google AFE page after a page had loaded for a couple of minutes. I got rid of google afe and shortly thereafter when I started closing IE an about:blank page would pop up that would not close unless I let is sit for a couple of minutes or I did "end now." I have spyware blaster, Ad-Aware SE Personal, spybot search and destroy and have since downloaded and ran with all of those Panda's free search, CC Cleaner, XoftSpy SE and RegCure (which I paid for), AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, CWShredder, and Windows defender. All were updated and ran. Some things required removal and Windows defender and Panda came up with nothing. I now have IE 7 and it still does the about:blank when closing. I'm also running firefox/mozilla now which I like except for certain programs like MSN Messenger continue to use IE even with firefox set as the default, which is quite annoying. So if anyone knows how to make all my programs use firefox I'd appreciate that help as well.

But to get down to it here is my hijackthis log if anyone can help. Thanks.

A little help with my problem would be nice. I thought these forums were supposed to have a pretty fast turn around with someone reading your highjack this log. It says my topic has 23 views and no one can help?
Hello and Welcome to the forum.

As you can see all the help forums are overloaded.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Download this file from the link to your desktop.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Click "Save" and save it to your desktop.

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'install'

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
Logitech\Desktop Messenger

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Unless you are using a proxy server fix.
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = GSC01:8080
O15 - Trusted Zone: www.bettersex.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.carmags.co.uk

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I'm going to do all these things now, but I wanted to let you know that my computer except for when the about:blank page comes up runs pretty quickly. Sometimes a little sluggish at start-up but runs normally after everything loads up and settles in.
Ok I did everything described above and here is my latest log. Sadly IE is still leaving behind an about:blank page after closing IE down. Also something else that has plagued by Dell Inspiron 700M since shortly after getting is, when I start or restart the computer not all of my system tray icons appear. Specifically the volume and power icons. They are both checked to appear but do will not appear until I log off and log back on. The computer also seems to run faster after logging off and logging back on. Also this is still happening after doing all of the above. Thanks again for all of the help on this.

when I start or restart the computer not all of my system tray icons appear. Specifically the volume and power icons. They are both checked to appear but do will not appear until I log off and log back on. The computer also seems to run faster after logging off and logging back on

. Is there a little arrow there/
The default is to hide unused icons.

Did you install Messanger plus without the advertisments?

The "hide unused icons" in the properties of the taskbar is unchecked already.

I'm pretty sure I installed messenger live plus witout the advertisements. Should I uninstall and see if it fixes my problem?

Also when I close IE explorer it now longer opens a blank page and says "about:blank" in the address bar. It opens up a blank page and and in the address bar it now says the address of the page that was close and down at the bottom it says "blank page." Here is a screen shot of what happens after I open IE and close it:

It looks like it's trying to connect to that web site.

go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Let me know if that helps

These directions I'm guessing are for IE 6 or earlier. I have 7. I can't navigate to the "put a check by 'delete offline content' and click ok" or the reset web settings. In 7 those options aren't available on those pages. Do you know where they are on IE 7?

Don't know about IE 7;

See if this is there.
With IE open click Tools> Internet Options> Programs and click Reset Web Settings

That didn't work but I figured out how to reset the web settings and the problem has gone away. I guess some add-on was causing the issue.

Any ideas on the missing taskbar icons at startup or restart?

I could be wrong but I think theres a limit for the number of icons in the taskbar

That could explain it but I've seen friends and family with icons going halfway across the screen. I'm thinking its a Dell thing, because my last one did the same thing. Oh well. It's doing it less now, so who knows what the issue is. Thanks for all the help though. I appreciate it.
