this is my first post to all :-)

i'm usu. pretty "protected" and rarely find anything amiss when i do my housekeeping, but this has me flummoxed. all i know is this has something to do w/ pmnlm.dll in the windows/system32 folder, but i have run every spyware/adware fixer i can find and nothing will remove it. i can't even get any program to say i have a problem (virtumonde or whatever), but counterspy and trend micro anti-spyware both show pmnlm.dll loading, no matter how often i block or try to delete.

i had to roll back internet explorer from v7 to v6 cuz the pop-ups were insane, i had to delete firefox altogether cuz it wouldn't even start, and i'm on opera v9 now cuz it doesn't seem to be affected.

help!! i'm not a newbie, but just experienced enuf to know when i'm at the outer limits of my 'puter knowledge lol…

many thanks to all,
tinidril

Welcome to the forum. :wavey:

Please do this:

Rename:

C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe

To:

C:\HJT\look.exe

Reboot, run it, and post a new log into this thread.

My hunch is you have the infection that hides from HijackThis!

If so, this will reveal it so we can see clearly what we're dealing with.

:)
here it is, and thank you SO much for the quick response!

As I suspected. The infection is now revealed.

Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop from here:

VundoFix.exe

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

1. Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
2. Click the Scan for Vundo button.
3. Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
4. If it doesn't find anything, in the main program window, choose "Add more files?".
Type the next line into the box EXACTLY AS SHOWN:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnlm.dll

Click Close Window, then Remove Vundo.

5. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
6. Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
7. When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
8. Turn your computer back on.

Post a new HijackThis! log, along with the contents of this file:

C:\vundofix.txt

into this thread.
:)
Gracious! I can't believe how many bad files were lurking about…this was like finding a nest of cockroaches! UGH!!! And as IF i'd ever buy anything from folks who used this kind of advertising!

Has everything been removed now?

thanks
