Hi I'm Angelfire777 and it'll be my pleasure to assist you in your problem. Reasearching Hijackthis logs could take sometime so please, be patient while I research a fix for you. Also, I have to let experts check my fixes first before bringing them to you. Please observe these while we work: 1.) Please stick with this thread until we are finished, do not start a new topic here or start a new thread at other forums. Do not worry, We were trained to help and never give up until we get you all fixed up. 2.) Stop if you have questions!! Never proceed if something is unclear to you. We don't want to start all over again. 3.) Avoid downloading other applications or other anti-spyware programs unless you really need to. 4.) Lastly, please be patient and never lose hope. Sometimes, it will take us several tries and posts to get something done. Sit back tight, I'll be back for you!
Angelfire777, Thank you very much for your help! I'll get a fresh cup of coffee and catch the morning news while you review my log. I appreciate your help. Warmest regards, JPS30
Dear Angelfire777, Any luck yet with my log? I'm headed overseas on business late Friday. If I can't straighten this out pretty soon, I will have to resort to a system restore and reinstall. My apologies as I am not making this up to goad you into action. I simply can't leave with my laptop not functioning properly. Thank you again for your help. Warmest regards, JPS30
Hi, as I have said in my introduction, I have to let experts or teachers check my fix first before I can bring them to you.

1.) You have executed HijackThis directly from the zip file which means that the backups that it makes will not be saved. We need to move Hijackthis.

To move Hijackthis:
  • Double-click your Hijackthis.zip file and a window will open showing the HijackThis file. On the left pane, click on the link that says Extract all files.
  • The Extraction Wizard will open, click on Browse.
  • This will take you to a Select a Destination Window. Click on the (+) sign beside My computer and when it collpases, click C:\ to highlight it.
  • Click on Make New Folder. You can name your folder HJT or hijackthis or whatever you want, then click OK
  • The Hijackthis program will extract to your new folder and you will see the Extraction Complete window. Put a checkmark in the Show extracted files box and then click Finish.
  • The HijackThis folder will open to show the HijackThis program.
You can run hijackthis from its new location but if you find it more convenient to run it from your desktop, right-click HijackThis.exe and select Send To from the options and then choose Desktop (create shortcut).

2.) Open Hijackthis > choose Scan Only > Place a checkmark against the boxes beside these entries in bold.

Close your browsers and all open windows, then click "Fix Checked."

3.) You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt
Thank you very much Angelfire! I'll copy and run through your list tonight when I get home. I really appreciate your help! Warmest regards, JPS30
Dear Angelfire,

Thank you very much for your help. Everything appears to be back to normal. I printed out your instructions and followed them to the letter. I had a bit of a start after clicking the "Fix Checked." button. My computer locked up. I tried to wait it out but nothing happened, so I hit the control/alt/delete combo and shut it down. I then restarted and downloaded and ran "Fixwareout" per your instructions. Here is the report.

All of the deleted files are gone and my laptop is running beautifully! I can't thank you enough! This is an excellent service. Please keep up the great work.

Warmest regards,

JPS30
Hi, I apologize for the long delay in responding. We just had a 5 day power outage. I'll try my best to post back within 48 hours. Thank you for your understanding.
1.) Open Windows Explorer by hitting your Windows Key + E at the same time.
*If you do not have a Windows Key, double click My Computer > Click the folders icon

Then navigate to these files and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\CSCMV.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DMICD.EXE

Empty your recycle bin

2.) Reboot

3.) Your Java is out of date….
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Click Start > Control Panel
  • Click Add/Remove Programs
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9, and install it to your computer.

On your next reply, please include:
  • A Fresh Hijackthis log
