Hi,

been looking at the other postings on this topic and have tried some things. For example, turning off the system restore - control panel/system. This would be great, but everything in control panel comes back with "another program is currently using this file" when trying to open them. Also, I cannot see what process are running because the "top half" of the task manager is missing - i.e where the tabs and menus are.

I have downloaded the Hijack tool and results follow (Hope it helps)

Thanks for all your help in advance

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RelevantKnowledge] c:\windows\system32\rlvknlg.exe -boot

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [msmsg] msmsg.exe

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\windows\system32\rlvknlg.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\msmsg.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)
Hello again,

Right, had no trouble following your instructions, up until the delete files part.

Did a search (incl hidden files) for rlvknlg.exe and the only thing it came back with was rlvknlg.exe-1C0D1DED.pf located in windows\prefetch. But I deleted that anyway!

Did another search for msmsg.exe and it could be found at all. So I haven't deleted anything for this one.

Ran Hijack This again, results follow.

also, curiosity got the better of me… I am afraid nothing has been fixed yet :(

Thanks again for all your help.
