Hello,

I'm new here and am MeekOne. Pleased to meet you. Will you please give me a hand with this problem I have been having? I have done everything I can think of to get rid of this constant pop up that makes me shut my computer down about 7-10 times a day. I'll be searching usually the google site, and bam, a small white box pops up and after a while it says page cannot be displayed cannot find it or something like that. I have the panicwear pop up stopper so it stops the pop up advertisment, but doesn't stop the pop up box from coming up, and when it does I cannot get rid of it no matter what I do. I have to reboot every time. I have the spybot search and destroy and even when I do that it doesn't help, but I do keep getting this annoying Rotue thing that constantly has to be "fixed" and then it comes back again even right after I have "fixed" it. I have tried deleting my temporary files and even some of my cookies and still it comes back. I am at my wits end and don't know what to do, this thing has been haunting me for months and finally I thought let me see if someone could help me figure this out because what I am doing certainly is not working. I am not a techy by any means, and was told by dough to do the hijack thing you see below, I surely appreciate his help, and would really appreciate some more when you have some time. Any help you can give would surely be appreciated. Thank you very much, and may God bless you.

Thank you so much for helping me with this shelf life, that is so very kind of you and greatly appreciated on the other side of this screen. :)

I deleted the topsearch, but the ebates_moemoneymaker could not be found there. All that wasn't recognizable in my add/delete programs section was the following:

Bazooka scanner (whatever that is, do I need this?)
CSnync
Data Compiler
D Helper Web Driver
Indexing function
IntelPCCamera CS630 (which I have never had hooked up on this computer???)
Net Meeting 3.01
SMB OS
Search OS
Search Relevancy

TP HTTP
Uninstall InControl Tools 98
URL.IE APP
Websavings from Ebates (When I try to delete this from there, I get a ERROR: Could not execute Main: The System cannot find the file specified)

Okay, did all that, thank you so much again for helping me!

ok now look in this dir and see if you can find and delete these files. theay are all in C:\WINDOWS
delete just these files:

ILCMP.exe
idctup20.exe
habwj.exe
mjuxadgv.exe

I'm sorry, but these were not in there. What I did find was this: llcmp.lgc in c:\windows\applog; idctup20.lgc in c:\windows\applog; habwj.exe could not be found anywhere and mjuxadgv.lgc was found in c:\windows\applog also. I did not delete them until I heard from you if it is okay or not.

if they give you problems when you try to delete them, bring up task manager by hitting the crtl-alt-delete key combo. look for each of the above .exes running as a process, click on one in the list, then click on the end process button. do each one if present one by one. then go back and find them in the C:\Windows dir and delete them

I tried that, but all I have in my task mgr is: Windows; hijackthis.log-note pad; explorer; topsearch (I tried to delete this one, but it wouldn't leave, so after I deleted it in program files, it finally was able to be deleted in task mgr though); PSFree; popupscn; loadqm; stimon; vptray; and systray.

next look here:
C:\Program Files and delete the entire folder for these:

TOPSEARCH
EBATES_MOEMONEYMAKER[\quote]
I got rid of topsearch, but ebates_moemoneymaker could not be found anywhere.

now double click the LspFix .exe you downloaded.
check the "i know what iam doing box"
on the left hand side under the keep column click on inetadpt.dll
then click the >> arrow to move inetadpt.dll to the remove side, click the finish button
—————————————————-

Okay, was able to do this part. Thank you :)

now go to the c:\windows\system dir and look for and delete just: inetadpt.dll

It won't let me, it keeps saying: Access denied make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

go to start>settings>control panel and click the internet options icon
Click on Delete Cookies.

I don't have that option here for some reason, when I click on the internet options I get menu tabs that say: General; Security; Content; Connections: Programs; and Advanced.

Click on Delete Files, Make sure Delete all offline content is checked and then click on OK

I do not have the delete files option here for some reason.

Then click on Settings, then click on View Files if there is any thing in there, delete what you can
(edit>select all— then file>delete)

I do not have this there either, and when I go to the settings button, it brings up only: Control Panel; Printers; Task bar & Start menu; Folder options; Active desktop; and Windows update.

Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

last go back to start>settings>control panel and click the internet options icon, click on the Programs tab and click on "reset web settings", then click the ok button.

last go here download, update then do deep scan with a squared free version 2.0

Okay, I did all the rest of what I could do, though. Here is the new hjt scan-looks a lot better and tighter now! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much:

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to help me. :) May the Lord bless you abundantly for your help with this issue.
hi MeekOne,

excellent. looking much better.

Bazooka scanner (whatever that is, do I need this?)

thats a malware remover. i would uninstall it via the add/remove programs panel. you have spybot search and destroy. did you get a squared free?

those files you coudnt find (the 04 items) HJT can delete some 04 items simply by selecting them, if you couldnt find them hjt must have took care of them.

I don't have that option here for some reason, when I click on the internet options I get menu tabs that say: General; Security; Content; Connections: Programs; and Advanced.

under one of those tabs see if you have the option to delete cookies, also look for a button to reset web settings under one of the tabs
—————————————–
next
start hjt and click on "open misc tools section" click on "delete a file on reboot" copy/past this: c:\windows\system\inetadpt.dll
in the window and click open. at the prompt to reboot select yes. computer will restart.

after the restart, start hjt again, click on open misc tools section, then on open uninstall manager, a list of whats in the add/remove programs panel should come up, click on save list, then post that list and a new hjt log in next reply.

iam not sure if windows update will work with w98 or provide auto downloads, but you should visit there and try to get any updates for windows98 and internet explorer. or even upgrade internet explorer to v 6.0

I downloaded the IE 6 SP1, but when I go into the windows update section, it tells me it can't do it and that it is incomplete, then it says there is an error with that and closes down the window. I had to get the IE 6 SP1 the long way around by going to online support, but it still won't do the update right if I go there again. Anyway, hopefully that is the least of my troubles now. I have to say that since you have helped me, I haven't seen not one of those pesky white pop up boxes that makes me shut my computer down!!! :D How can I ever thank you enough for helping me fix this problem? You are truly terrific and your kindness towards others is incredible. Thank you so much!!! May God bless your heart. :)

Thank you so much, shelf life! I really appreciate all of your help. I downloaded the ccleaner and have tried to delete some of the programs above, some of them won't go though. I'm glad I made you blush, we all need a little color in our cheeks now and then! (((hugs))) You are incredibly kind, thank you so much!

Hi again, shelf life! :D

I'm still with you, just really crazy busy on this end of your screen…so many things going on this is the first chance I had to come back to continue on with cleaning up my computer. I must say though those aggravating white boxes have not haunted me again since I have been talking with you. You have helped me more than you could ever know. I have not had to shut down my computer since I met you here, and that you can't put a price on. You are not going to believe this, but my supervisor just walked in the door and told me I am getting a brand new computer in about 10 minutes. It will take them about an hour to install she said, and I have to get off right now to get ready for it. I will come back and next time will have new stuff on my computer to talk about. I will check out what you gave me above, but I wonder with a new computer if it will still be necessary. This is so weird that this should happen just as I am writing you. See you with my new computer soon! Thank you, thank you, thank you! :D
hi MeekOne,

sorry for delay. i was out of town for afew days.
a new clean computer. good. heres some reference material for your reading pleasure.

Be careful of what you download, and where you download it from. Many programs come bundled with extra software. You may be installing more than you think. Learn more about the program, Does it come bundled with other "3rd party" programs? READ the EULA before preceding with the install. If you search hard enough you can always find a "clean" alternative to any software. Becarful what you download from file sharing networks. If your habits include warez, porn, crack etc you are more likely to encounter malicious code. If you are not sure, scan it with your Antivirus app. DO YOU TRUST THE SOURCE? Check this database:Spyware Guide or this: Library before installing free/shareware.

Make sure you keep your Windows OS/Browser current by visiting Windows update
occasionaly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. These patch flaws/bugs that can be exploited.

Adjust your browser settings: Change your(active x) settings in IE. With IE open go to tools, internet options, security tab. Click on the internet globe, then custom level. Set the first option "download signed active x controls" to prompt, the next two to disable. Read more:
Working with Internet Explorer 6 Security
Many exploits are directed at Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it. Try a different browser. You can have and use more than one browser on your computer.
Like Firefox,

Install a Firewall:A firewall will help to control what comes in from the internet and what leaves your computer to the internet. Zone Alarm is a free and easy to use firewall, that will provide in and outbound protection. XP firewall dosnt block outbound traffic. Its important to know/learn what routinely needs a internet connection.

Outlook Express with the default settings is not secure. It will run scripts, download images etc, just like a browser, but this was the old Outlook Express. Service Pack 2 has made huge improvements to Outlook, but just like with Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it.
try Pegasus E-Mail.

Make sure you have and keep updated Antivirus software
Free for home users:
avast! 4 Home Edition Download
AVG free version 7.0

Clam Win

Download one or two of these, install and update before using:(if these are constantly finding malware, then you need to make changes to your browser and or your habits)
