I downloaded and ran a scan with SpyCatcher and it found a dialler and a keylogger that ad-aware had missed. Next time i switched my PC on SpyCatcher had givrn no indication that it had deleted said nasties, and it started interfering in everything I did. I decided it was causing more problems than and uninstalled it. Scanned with HighjackThis and found a BHO with no name. any ideas?

many thanks
Welcome to the forum, yeah that is what is left in the HJT log when a program kills the BHO. We call it an orphan and it is just clutter.

Let's clean a little as we remove two pieces of trash. When you use the tool I provide, you can skip the Prefetch folder if you wish. It does not hurt to clean it if it is jambed full, but your first few boots will be a little slower as it repopulates.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - (no file)
SpyCatcher

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

No need to post again, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
