Welcome to the forum, your log looks clean  I am not looking at any malware or viruses on it. You have a awful lot of processes running for National Instruments , have you had these programs prior to the slowdown?

Lets do a couple of things, run the trial of Ewido, it will find and remove any bad files and also may show us if something is hidden and not showing on your log.

Download and install the 30 day trial of Ewido Anti Spyware to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded Ewido Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close Ewido Anti-Spyware <– Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch Ewido-Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close Ewido

Run this system cleaner.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

Let me see the report from Ewido and a new HJT log, be sure to run HJT in normal mode, not Safemode.

Ken,

Thanks for taking a look. Followed your instructions and got the EWIDO report below, then ran ATF. I ran another EWIDO scan after ATF and it was clean. Still takes 5 minutes to do complete start-up. Should I try to disable the National Instruments programs and test start-up, however I do not recall a correlation.

I appreciate the help!!

Your new HJT log looks great  Ewido basically found just cookies, nothing to worry about there.

As far as disabling National Instruments, this is totally your call. Is this a program that you use and need?? If not you can remove them via the Add-Remove Program in the Control Panel.

You can also go to Start> Run and type in msconfig then go to the Start Up Tab and disable National Instruments and see if it makes a difference. It may because I am looking at 10 instances of National Instruments processes running in the background on your system. This means that it takes more time to load all that and then stop them at shutdown. Give it a try and see if it makes a difference. You can always re enable them if you wish by using the same procedure.

These are also your call,
they are loading when windows loads and they all can be run manually when you need them. You can fix these with HJT.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03\bin\jusched.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateManager] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic\Update Manager\sgtray.exe" /r
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

If you ever want them back, you just have to open HJT > View the list of backups and restore the ones you want.

Also….
  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous Java Updates
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Micro website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 6 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • Use the Online Installation
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
Run this quick scan to see if anything may be hidden, include the report in your next reply.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked.
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"
Thanks again Ken! Blacklight was clean: 09/12/06 17:56:31 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.46 initialized 09/12/06 17:56:31 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 09/12/06 17:56:33 [Note]: 7019 4 09/12/06 17:56:33 [Note]: 7005 0 09/12/06 17:56:59 [Note]: 7006 0 09/12/06 17:56:59 [Note]: 7011 884 09/12/06 17:56:59 [Note]: 7026 0 09/12/06 17:56:59 [Note]: 7026 0 09/12/06 17:57:18 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1019 09/12/06 18:05:00 [Note]: 2000 1006 09/12/06 18:07:58 [Note]: 7007 0 I have uninstalled the National Instruments Software and updated my Java to no avail Still, from the time I press the power button, it takes 5 full minutes to power-up, logon to my desktop and have all operations started up. Is there anything else to try?? I appreciate your time and effort.

Ewido, Blacklight came up clean as did your HJT log. Your not complaining of any issues that may be malware like pop up porn windows or things of that nature. So this could be a windows or hardware issue.

Sometimes you need to go through your system and remove programs that you havent used in 6 months and have no intent of ever using them, the build up sometimes is enormous. I did this myself on my own PC a few months back and it did make a difference in my startup and shut down times.
