My computer seems to running insanely slow. I am running a 2.8GHz Pentium with 512MB RAM, Windows XP SP2, latest patches, Spy Sweeper, NIS 2006. Below is my HiJackThis log. Can anyone help me out? I have run several scans of Spy Sweeper and AV and nothing comes up. I just seems there is too much of a delay right now. Thanks for you help in advance.

Hi curacaojay:

I have merged your two topics into one. This will prevent having two volunteers trying to assist you with a single problem. We are sorry for the delay, but the site gets a lot of requests for assistance and we have been very busy.

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

Please use this link:
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/28/

* Close all windows and browsers, before continuing.
* Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
* You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
* When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
* You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
* When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Your computer will then shutdown.
* Turn your computer back on.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/images/lib/MSWINSCK.OCX
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/suppo…me=MSWINSCK.OCX

Next:
Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

O15 - Trusted Zone: www.myspace.com
O20 - Winlogon Notify: sstqo - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqo.dll (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqo.dll

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

Please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt.

Please advise if any problems remain.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
Thanks and sorry about posting twice. I was getting frustrated, it seemed that posts just before me and just after me were being answered, so I thought I had posted incorrectly. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

Below are the two logs you requested: HiJackThis first and Look2Me second. As for any change, I will have to watch and see. I dont see anything drastic yet, system still seems sluggish. However, I posted in the chat room last night it might be that I am only running on 512MB RAM. I am going to boost it to at least 1GB, if not 2GB.

Any way, let me know if you see anything else going on here. Thanks a lot for your support.

Hi curacaojay:

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

I understand your frustration. The problem with posting again is that it really should not help, because the Volunteers here are instructed to answer the oldest posts first. There are some exceptions, of course. If the log is too difficult, usually only those who feel capable will reply. Also some Volunteers ignore the "rule" and have a habit of replying to posts only a few minuits, or a few hours old.
It would certainly make me angry seeing someone who just posted get a reply, if I had been waiting for several days.

We also have Cadets (members of our helpers in training), from here and Malware Removal Forum(UK) , for whom that "rule" is lifted, so that they will get more responses to their replies and so will learn at an increased rate. It would not help with their training to reply to old posts that never are going to be answered. You would be amazed at the number of posts we respond to, for which we never receive an answer.

That may clear things up some, but I'm sure it doesn't help much, when your machine is acting like a cranky two year old.

I posted in the chat room last night it might be that I am only running on 512MB RAM. I am going to boost it to at least 1GB, if not 2GB.

Unless you have a lot of photos and music downloaded, play a lot of games, or use your PC for something besides surfing the Internet, 512MB of RAM should be more than enough.
Gamers would surely disagree. For them, there can never be enough RAM.
Personally, I wouldn't know what to do with 2GB of RAM, but I don't run Nortons either. It is well known that Norton/Symantec will slow things down considerably.

I suggest doing a CHKDSK, then a DEFRAGMENTATION.
Then, delete all your temp and Temporary Internet Files.
Do a couple of online Virus scans and an online Trojan scan.
If you need links or directions, please don't hesitate to ask.
That should clean up and possibly even speed up your PC, just a bit.

When we have finished, I'll offer several FREE Protection Programs that will keep your PC much safer on the Internet, plus some sage advice from a couple of experts in the field of Internet Security.

Disable SpySweeper:
You have SpySweeper installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.
  • Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options>Uncheck "load at windows startup"
  • Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
  • Uncheck" home page shield".
  • Uncheck ''automatically restore default without notification".
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable SpySweeper again.

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

The following are OPTIONAL fixes:

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.
