My Hijackthis log

Greetings,

I keep getting a message from my McAfee virus scan software that it has detected and removed a Trojan Downloader ASI virus. So far, I have run the the McAfee virus scan repeatedly, with and w/o System Restore disabled, run it in Safe mode, run it in DOS mode. Also run Housecall online virus scan several time. No luck, the virus still comes back.

I am running Win XP, version 2002, with SP 2.

Don't run it yet.

Please download FixWareout from one of these links:
Fixwareout.exe
Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Close the program.

* Run Fixwareout on the desktop.
* Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
* The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
* You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
* Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
* Once the desktop loads a text will open (report.txt). We'll need that in a bit.

"Copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

Also open this file with Notepad:

C:\fixwareout\report.txt

And paste it's contents into your next post.

Hi Micah 6:8, I've been trying to follow your instructions, but have been unable to download Fixwareout.exe from either link provided. Each time I tried, I either got a message saying the URL was not valid, or was redirected to another site. Can I download Fixware from any other source. Confusedone

Hi Micah 6:8 Looks like there is still a problem. I just got a McAfee notice that a Trojan Downloader-ASI virus was detected and cleaned in the System Volume Info \ restore area of my computer. What else can we do?

If it was "cleaned", you have no problem. It's not uncommon for malware to be in that area after an attack, but unless you use that particular restore point, it's no real threat. Reboot and run another McAfee scan. It should come up "clean". Let me know. :)
