I cannot use system restore as it states that there have been no changes made to my PC, When i know full well that changes have been made. Norton antivirus keeps giving me a security alert that my virus definitions are out of date, I update and still get the same message. Incoming emails are being bounced back to sender. I have run xsoftspy which informs me that i have the "Trojan Backdoor EB" . I obviously want to remove this trojan, but am reluctant to put my credit card details online in order to register this software removal tool. I am afraid that someone is monitoring my pc with this trojan.
How then can i safely remove this trojan, without putting my credit card details online.
I have included my hijack log for you which might show up other problems.
Here's hoping that you can help

Welcome to the forum, If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, please do this.

1) Your version of HJT is out of date, download a new version from here:
http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe
Don't move where you have it located, save this file in the same folder and it will replace the old one.

2) Post a new HJT log along with any new information that you think will help. If Norton is finding this trojan, please tell me what Norton says the name is and where it is located (pathway)

Thanks
Hi Have removed Norton antivirus as it did not find anything. Installed Mcfee antispy ware, still didnt find anything.
Ran Xsoftspy shows I have Trojan bacdoor EB. got a friend to get me registration key to remove Trojan backdoor EB. Trojan removed ok.
Installed Spynomore. Found 3 toolbar trojans and another 2 trojans called ZLOB. Got registration key and removed these. Ran spynomore again, full scan, which found nothing.
Have updated hijack this as you instructed and post below. Hopefully pc is now ok, but you might see something in the log.
Regards

Just a further post to let you know that all is not well. Tried to check emails. Unable to receive any. Checked setting in outlook express and the setting for incoming mail po3, has been changed ( not by me ) from pop.freeserve.co.uk to 127.0.0.1 change it back and can then receive emails. Hope you can help
Good morning John, I'll see if I can help you resolve this problem. First I need to say that I see no malware in the log. I do see a little clutter we can remove before we are done. I am concerned that Norton did not find anything as McAfee (which I run) did not either. Some times these virus oriented programs miss adware programs. I am also fearfull of programs that may be locating stuff just to get a purchase out of you. I do not see the SpyNoMore program running? It seems to be legitimate, at least it is not on the rouge spyware list:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm but I do see this one: C:\Program Files\Geek Superhero\GeekSuperhero.exe Did you install that program? Did you run it to see what it located? If you did not install it, I would uninstall it were I you. As far as the SpyNoMore program, I am a little suspicious of what it located because we are looking right at the toolbars in the HJT list and they are all valid. I also see no evidence of zlob which is being called Smitfraud. To be sure let's do this, we will clear the clutter a little later.

1) This will tell us if there is any Smitfraud (zlob) present, if there is we will use the same tool to remove it so leave the tool where you are instructed to put it until we are done with it.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

2) ewido scan: Remove anything ewido locates unless you know it is not bad.
First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.
3) Let's check for hidden rootkits, download BlackLight here:
https://europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Run the scan, don't fix anything until I look. Post the results of the scan.

Post the contents of the SmitfraudFix report, the ewido scan report, the results of the BlackLight scan, any information I requested above and any comments you think will help.

Thanks…Phil

Nothing there John, I would say you have no Smitfraud infection. I also suggest you get your ISP involved in this issue, let them know about the change in setting and see what they advise. Thanks

The IP information, I would check with your ISP, they are the only ones in a position to know if the settings are all correct. That's what you pay them for :) Thanks
Phil Ran Blacklight, reported no errors at all. Will continue to monitor outlook express settings. Contacting an ISP in the UK is a complete waste of time and very expensive. The help desk is usually in India, and the staff work from prompts on a PC, and usually can only fix the very basic of problems. If you think my PC seems reasonably ok, I will thank you for your time and trouble, and make an apropriate donation. Is it ok to run Spynomore as well as Mcfee antispy, or will there be a conflict. Thanks John Wood
Hi John, we could scan forever, I just don't think there is anything there. Have you considered doing away with Outlook Express and moving to hotmail? or Gmail? I dumped OE long ago and much prefer web based mail. Just type free hotmail into google for information.
and gmail: https://www.google.com/accounts/SmsMailSignup1

As far as spynomore, I would dump it and the other one also, Greek what ever. Here is some information for you:

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=279
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html
http://cybercoyote.org/security/not-admin.shtml

ewido is a great program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…src=sec_doc_nam

My suggestion is these three freeware products, that work well with all other programs:
SpywareBlaster
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial49.html
SpywareGuard:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial50.html
IE-Spyad
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial53.html

I'll leave the topic open for a few days in case you have questions.

Safe surfing…Phil
