Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Improvement and Enhancement Act of 2006 (Introduced in Senate)

Look it up on Thomas: http://thomas.loc.gov/ and start reading at SEC. 201

While the thing appears to have a couple of good elements in it, most of it's not - one of those "carrot and stick" scenarios.

Read it and see what you think. Pete
Used this link: http://www.theorator.com/senate.html to FAX this letter to BOTH of my Senator's:

"Absolutely OPPOSED to S.3001.IS - Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Improvement and Enhancement Act of 2006!

Dear Senator,
Section 201 of this proposed bill MORE THAN DOUBLES the amount of

time the government can go without asking for legal permission to wiretap

legitimate, innocent American citizens (from 72 to 168 hours!).

SEC.’s 202 and 203 give the authority to start a wiretap to virtually any Tom,

Dick or Harry employed by ANY three-letter agency.

Innocent American citizens spied upon by the government will never be

notified that they were either illegally spied-upon OR cleared.

SEC. 209 totally and retroactively “forgives” the Executive Branch for all

illegal programs they’ve operated to date – known or UN-known - due to the way it

re-words (AMENDS) Section 111 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of

1978 (50 U.S.C. 1811).

THIS IS INTOLERABLE!!!

I want you to vote AGAINST this bill (S. 3001) – as well as AGAINST S.

2453 (National Security Surveillance Act of 2006) AND S. 2455 (Terrorist

Surveillance Act of 2006).

I assure you – my vote (and the votes of everyone I can possibly influence) in

the upcoming election(s) will be based entirely on your stand regarding issues of

FREEDOM and ADHERENCE TO THE CONSTITUTION.

Yours truly, "

I urge you to contact YOUR Senators, too. Pete
