A Magicians Hijackthis Log

My name is Dale and I must confess I am more of a magician than a techie, I have had some problems with my PC and was advised to download Hijackthis and get a log.

This is my original post on Magicbunny.co.uk:

Hi everybody.

I have a slight problem with my PC, generally I amgood with this type of thing but I cannot solve it at all. Basically I have a small square in the laft hand side of my desktop (see pic) it has bee there for a few months and it has never bothered me. I clicked it today and it is a verysmall application box, with nothing in it. Unfortunately whenever I click it the loadig icon appears and I cannot do anything on my PC, nor can I take a picture of it, my PC just hangs and crashes forcing me to "Ctrl, Alt, Delete" and shut down.

I have run my Antivirus, Spybots, Microsoft updates and also revoved all carp** from the PC. Yet to my annoyance, it remains. I suppose I could use my recovery disc or format my laptop but I would prefer not to so any assistance would be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Important: Do this before any fix.

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.



After the above:


Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.




Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"




Delete these Files if listed:
C:\Windows\RUNXMLPL.exe
C:\WINDOWS\vphc600.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\regscan.exe


Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.


Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
