System sluggish, Word doesn't work, mouse stops working

I've been having a lot of problems that appear to be virus-related. Symptoms include:

- System slows down
- Can't open an existing Word file (just freezes)
- Mouse starts getting hard to operate, then just stops working
- Takes forever to open Web pages
- Other stuff I can't remember and probably other things I don't know about because I don't use them

Reboots are frequent. I've been running Spysweeper pretty regularly. It finds a lot of problems and deletes them, but at some point everything comes back and I'm deleting the same problems that were deleted the last time! Been using my son's laptop as a backup, but he goes back to college this weekend so I've got to get these problems resolved!

Here's my hijackthislog:

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment
Okay, downloaded and ran AVG. It found two viruses and deleted them. I didn't empty the recycle bin because it was already empty. System is still sluggish, and still can't run Word. When I'm online, the CPU cranks away non-stop like it's working on something.

Thanks!
Looks better! Mouse seems to be working well, which was the most crippling problem. Still takes a while to open applications and the CPU churns nonstop while I'm on the internet, but overall it seems pretty responsive. Word access was still a problem, so for snicks I thought I'd try something I've done in the past to fix Word problems: renamed normal.dot and then opened up Word so it would create a new normal.dot. It worked (so far, anyway). . . so the Word problem may not have been related to the virus(es)–although I'd never seen these particular symptoms before. Thanks very much for your help. Anything else I should do at this point?
Whoops! Posted too soon. . .was just browsing the net when my mouse froze. Think it's a virus problem, or just a problem with my mouse? I have to admit it's not as bad as it used to be. I used to have to keep rebooting and sometimes when it came back up it would tell me the mouse wasn't connected (when it was). So it's better, but I guess it hasn't been resolved.
