Anyways now its really slow again and Norton keeps poping up saying I have the bgates virus, when it tries to erase the file winmqx32.dll it says it fails. I've tried to erase the file manually and it won't let me. I tried to ust HJT to erase the file upon reboot and when I hit the button in HJT it dumps me out of the program and doesn't let me back in to indentify the file I want to erase. Can you guys help me again? Thanks. Here is the output of my HJT scan.

lordlce

Thanks for sending your information. We are sorry for the delay in responding. The volunteers here are swamped and unfortunately not all logs get answered as quickly as we'd like.

Open the HijackThis Folder. Find the file HijackThis.exe, Right Click on the file and Select Rename.
Then, Rename Hijackthis.exe to HJT.exe.

Next:
Please download VundoFix.exe
to your desktop.[list]
[*] Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
[*]Click the Scan for Vundo button.
[*] Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
[*] You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
[*] Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
[*] When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Then, run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the VundoFix log.

Please do not edit your Hijack This log. We need to see the entire logfile, with no revisions. If anything is disabled using MSCONFIG, please enable all, before scanning with Hijack This.

Piatan,

I ran the vundo tool and it found 4 files that it then deleted. I reran Hijackthis and below are the results. I'm keeping an eye on the machine to see if Norton or Zone Alarm to see if anything else pops up. I know this machine had several viruses that Norton AV could not remove. Thanks for your help. Let me know if I should run any other tools.

Regards,

Lordlce

Hi lordlce:

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Looks like VundoFix may have taken care of part of the problem, but there is still some left to do.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Next:
Disable Ewido:
Please disable Ewido, as it may interfere with the fix.
To disable Ewido:
From the system tray:
  • Right-click the system tray icon and uncheck real time protection.
    or From within Ewido -
  • Under 'Your security status', if the real time protection is active, deactivate it by clicking 'real time protection' until the status says 'inactive'.
Once your log is clean you can re-enable Ewido.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

{Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {99D803E1-72D5-4898-B5BC-0B33AF124592} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljgg.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AD59632A-D9EB-F962-CD4B-FCBAAE111DC8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pdvpuv.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winmqx32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winmqx32.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

[*]Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljgg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yqmzwsw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pdvpuv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winmqx32.dll

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

Please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the ComboFix log and the VundoFix log.

Please advise if any problems remain.

Piatan,

Here are the results of the log files. My computer seems to be stable now. Norton and zone labs is not picking up any virus activity. Are there still things to fix? Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Lordlce

Hi lordlce. You're welcome.

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Looks like some bad things were found. Lets see if we can find the rest.

It would be advisable to Uninstall Zone Alarm, from Add/Remove Programs, since you are also using Nortons Firewall. Having two firewalls can cause conflicts between them and result in providing less protection, rather than more.

Next:
Go to Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs and Uninstall/Remove....

WGAFixer

Please reboot into SAFE MODE.

Next:
Please perform a search for the files just below, shown DARK. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

If any of these are found, RIGHT CLICK on that file and Click on PROPERTIES. This will provide information about its source. If it is a Microsoft file, or one from your Wireless, or another you may know, then leave it. If it is not, then delete it. If there is any doubt, leave it alone.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yfcstnuk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vmsvjjvf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uppstump.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kwtxyuca.exe

This file can be deleted, if found.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wnstssu.exe

When finished, enable hidden files and reboot into Normal Mode.

Next:

Updating Java
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_08-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
ComboFix can now be deleted.

Then, please advise how your PC is now.
The help you receive here is free. If you wish to show your appreciation, then you may donate to help keep us online.

Piatan,

Here's what I did.

I couldn't find the fill WGAfixer in the add/remove programs screen.

I am hesitant about removing Zonelabs from my PC. The version of Norton I have is only anti-virus and doesn't have the firewall capabilities. I find that Zonelabs picks up many things that norton doesn't. I appreciate your advice but I will keep zone labs.

I found these files and before deleting them I moved them to another folder. I couldn't tell which programs used these files since I did not recognize them. I'll keep them for a few days and if the system runs stable then I will delete them.

I loaded the update version of java as you requested.

My systems seems stable. I get no flags from norton or zonelabs that I have any worms. I reran HJT if you want to look at it. Do you see anything else?

Regards,

Lordlce

Hi lordlce:

I am hesitant about removing Zonelabs from my PC. The version of Norton I have is only anti-virus and doesn't have the firewall capabilities. I find that Zonelabs picks up many things that norton doesn't. I appreciate your advice but I will keep zone labs.

The advice concerning two firewall programs running, was given only due to the following active Service being present. If this is not Nortons Firewall, my apologies. The Service name is just a bit misleading.

O23 - Service: Norton AntiVirus Firewall Monitor Service (NPFMntor) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\IWP\NPFMntor.exe

Your Hijack This logfile looks to be clean.
If there are no problems, please be sure to use the link to see TonyKlein's good advice (below). Those Protection programs offered free, are some of the best available.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if Malware infects a computer with this operating system the Malware can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
Click the "Delete Cookies" button
Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
Go to Tools > Options.
Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Also, see TonyKlein's good advice and highly recommended FREE PROTECTION PROGRAMS. A must for all PC users.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Safe surfing. :wavey:
