Can not remove dell4me and MWSOEMON.exe

I have attempted several times to change my default home page. I check the 3 boxes in HJT, check "fix", reboot, and they just reappear. Can you also check my log for any other improvements that you see.

They both may be inhibiting the changes.

Temporarily disable (NOT UNINSTALL!!) them. Reboot.

Make the changes.

Reboot to be sure they "stick".

Turn the disabled programs back on.

Reboot.

Check again.

MyWebSearch should be in "Add/Remove Programs".

If not, we can "take it out" the 'hard' way.

Looks like you are a bona fide GENIUS !!! Here is my latest log. It appears I can change my IE home page and I don't see MWSOEMON anymore. I had already gone to ADD/REMOVE last week to get rid of mywebsearch. I just wish I had come here after that and saved a weeks time. Can you see if there is anything else in my log that I should be aware of.

Micah, Looks like i spoke too soon. Upon reboot, my ad-watch went crazy and I received an alert from Google Alerts that something was trying to change my current search engine. I went back into MSCONFIG and sure enough MWSOEMON is checked again in my startup log. I want to take you up on your offer to get rid of this the "hard" way. I have scoured the registry and can not locate it, but i believe it is the root of my default home page problem and possibly causing others too.

I have tried everything… I have booted in safe mode, made deletions in HJT and registry. I also changed the startup in MSCONFIG and it seems to take for awhile, but then all the items get re-cjecked to startup at boot. Help !!!

I'm not sure if that one will inhibit our efforts or not.

If you could disable it temporarily, that would be nice.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\program files\my web search <— FOLDER

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)
