We are sorry for the delay in replying to you. If you still require help, please post a fresh Hijackthis log as a reply to this thread. I'll receive an e-mail notification of your reply and will respond as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
Thank you! Here is the new logfile. My home page on the file has been changed to www.cbc.ca, but I do this manually each time before I go to the internet. Otherwise it now defaults to win-eto.com

Hello RDouce1 and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

I need you to run scans with the following programs to help remove some of the problems. The first scans will need to be run in Safe Mode to effectively remove the main infection.
  • Download Ad-Aware SE:
    • Download and Install Ad-Aware SE, keeping the default options.
    • Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE.
    • Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.
    • Once the update is finished, close the program.
  • Prepare CWShredder for use:
    • Download CWShredder.
    • Save CWShredder.exe to a convenient location.
    • Please do not do anything with it yet.
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
To return to normal mode just restart your computer as you normally would.
  • Scanning with Ad-Aware SE: Some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan.
    • Click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window.
      • In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
        • Automatically save log-file
        • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
        • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
      • Under Definitions:
        • Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days
      • Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :
        • Under Driver, Folders & Files:
          • Scan Within Archives
        • Under Select drives & folders to scan -
          • choose all hard drives
        • Under Memory & Registry: all green
        • Scan active processes
        • Scan registry
        • Deep-scan registry
        • Scan my IE favorites for banned URLs
        • Scan my Hosts file
      • Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:
        • Under Shell Integration:
          • Move deleted files to recycle bin
        • Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
          • include addtional object information
          • DESELECT - include negligible objects information
          • include environment information
        • Under Alternate Data Streams:
          • Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
          • Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT
      • Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:
        • Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
          • Unload recognized processes during scanning
          • Scan registry for all users instead of current user only
        • Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
          • Always try to unload modules before deletion
          • During removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary
          • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
        • Under the Log Files:
          • Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
          • Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
          • Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile
    • Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.
    • Click ‘Start’
      • Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
      • DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
    • Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.
    • If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window, click "Next".
    • The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
    • Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’.
  • Run CWShredder:
    • Double-click on CWShredder.exe.
    • Click "Fix ->" and click "OK" at the prompt.
    • CWShredder will scan and clean your system of CWS files.
    • Click "Next->" and then "Exit".
  • REBOOT normally to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE and CWShredder found.

Download and install Spybot S&D;:
  • Downloaded and Install Spybot S&D; accepting the Default Settings.
  • In the Menu Bar at the top of the Spybot window you will see 'Mode'. Make certain that 'default mode' has a check mark beside it.
  • Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D.
  • Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ then download and install the Updates.
  • Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’
  • When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ entries bold 'Black' entries and ‘GREEN’ entries in the window.
  • Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.
  • Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.
  • REBOOT to complete the scan and clear memory.
  • Do not enable Tea Timer until the log is clean as it will prevent the fix from working.

Move HijackThis to Permanent Folder:
You are running HijackThis from a Temp directory. These are cleaned up on a regular basis thus the program will be removed.
  • Go to Start > My Computer > and double click on C:.
  • Now right click an open area and click New > folder and change the folder name to HJT.
  • Move HijackThis from the Temp folder into this new folder.
Scan with HijackThis and post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Hello again,

I followed your instructions. Here is the new logfile. I think the problem may have been fixed; I got my usual homepage when I restarted after running adaware and CWShredder.

Still some work to do yet.

Step 1
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\7ILHIN~1.DLL

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SysSupport] sound64.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [romahere3] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DCLN7O0U14SK.EXE

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 2
Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the following items (if found):

WareOut

Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.
  • Double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop.
  • Click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.
  • In the Advanced Settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, click "Show all files".
  • On the View tab, uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
  • Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 4
Please delete the following files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\wotmp.tmp << File Only
C:\WINDOWS\wotmp11.tmp << File Only
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wosys.dll << File Only
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wosysdll.dll << File Only
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NPB92H2864THD.EXE << File Only
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DCLN7O0U14SK.EXE << File Only
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RHWR6FBCPZ8.EXE << File Only

C:\Program Files\WareOut << Whole Folder

You'll need to search for these files with Explorer to delete. They may be in C:\WINDOWS\system\ or C:\WINDOWS\
(Start > Search > All files and folders > More advanced options place a check in the first three boxes)

SysSupport.exe
defect08.exe
cmon14.exe
StartCpl.exe
sound64.exe

If you have any problem deleting these items, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 5
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.

Thanks!
Your new log appears clean. :)

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Your welcome. Glad to be able to help get your computer working better.
