Good morning. I finally went to bed at 6am. Even spent an hour with Dell tech support on phone. They want me to reload all my operating processes after backing up . Not want ing to do this if possible. I've done quite a bit of fine tuning to this Dell 8400 since I got it 2 years ago. Tried the combo.fix without sucess. Am now almost 99% positive the Altnet is in the registry. The Ewido scan confirms that Altnet and Dashborard subfolder are what is alerting the various scan programs. I googled everything I could find on "Altnet in registry" problems . A UK computer helpwebsite had a brief mention of a sucessful repair with a similar problem with inability to remove Altnet from the registry. I will post. Apparently this has to do with permissions. I tried the fixme.reg but it never seemed to merge correctlyin registry. I will post some of the comments from this if it helps:

Altnet comes bundled with Kazaa, and this can MSAS handle.
If you running Kazaa move your "My shared folder" to a
different outside Kazaa.
Uninstall "p2p networking" within add/remove programs,
also comes bundled with Kazaa.
Also download these tools:
- Download/Install CCleaner, www.ccleaner.com, removes
all temporarily junk
- Download/Install Lavasofts Adaware, also removes
tracking cookies.
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE…l-Edition/3000-
8022-10319876.html?tag=list
All scans then in safe mode, press F8 during reboot.
- Start CCleaner and remove all temporarily junk.
- Choose fullscan with all options checked within MSAS and
scan. Let MSAS remove Altnet and Kazaa.
- Also choose fullscan within Adaware
- Restart

Altnet messes with the permissions in the registry. You
have to follow the Altnet Removal Instructions procedure
about half way down the page at:
http://www.spywareremove.com/removeAltnet.html
in order to change the permissions so you can delete it
manually.

Thanks Ron. Here's hoping they can handle this permissions issue–there are
several bugs using various permissions tricks that Microsoft Antispyware
can't handle at all, at this point.

Just worked with a guy who had a problem with AntiSpy
wrapping around the axle when it got to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Toolbar\Files\APP
I told him to delete the Toolbar key but it wouldn't go so
we tried the permission changes from the altnet removal
instructions and that fixed the problem with AntiSpy and
if I can believe him also got rid of nail. He never sent
me a new HijackThis log so I can't be sure but that was
the impression I got.

Hmm - I didn't have any permissions issues with nail–in fact, nail.exe was
one of the easier parts of the puzzle to get rid of–I just copied con: over
it and hit F7 and marked it read only.

I am sure this is a permissions issue that I can't seem to resolve. I will also post list of users and permissions from my registry for "Advanced Security For Altnet" in mt Registry Editor:
Type: Name: Permission: Inherited from: Apply Too:
Allow CREATOR OWNER Full control
