here is my hihjack this log. I am not very savy but can't seem to delete altnet from my computer:

Please let me know what to "Check" or any help in getting rid of malware/adware/spyware. I currently have spybot,spyware blaster, and scanspyware but none seem to be able to delete. Thank you for any help.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

I'm not seeing Altnet in your log.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

So sorry for the delay. We had severe thunderstorms and tornado warning so DSL connection has been worse than usual post-Katrina. Here is my cut and paste registry from hijack. Computer seems ok other than storm related problems. I am unable to delete Altnet from registry as it seems to have "hijacked" my permissions.

I am unable to delete Altnet from registry as it seems to have "hijacked" my permissions.

Can you post where it's listed?

Have you tried Right Clicking on Altnet in the registry and changing the permissions on it?

yes, when i go into registry and right clickon Altnet, I have "Full Permissions" and "Read" capabilities– however, if I try to go into 'advanced and special permissions' i have the "inherit from parent…" checked for myself as user & admin…but unable to "check" box "rplace permission entries….. I don't understand why every time that I run spybot or scanspyware. they both tell me Altnet is "deleted" yet it is found every time I initiate a scan. As far as registry location. Altnet located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ALTNET. File seems to Named ab(Default) Type REG_SZ and Data (value not set). The Altnet folder contains one subfolder "Dashboard" that I am unable to open.

Lets see if Ewido will kill it

First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
Update now" link.
- Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
  progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
select ""Quarantine".".
Under "Reports"
- Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
- Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting
your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.

Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important).
Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
results of the ewido report scan along with a new HijackThis log.

With Ewido 4, if you click on the Infections icon, then it will show you all the items in Quarrantine and you can remove them that way. Just click Select All (if all of the items in quarrantine need removing) then Remove Finally

Ewido unable to resolve this issue. Did locate and attempt to quarintin Altnet , but reported "an error". Altnet STILL present during spy scan on spybot and spyscanner. Here is copy of Ewido report and new hijack log. Can't help but feel this is somehow related to my inabity to delete altnet from registry.

Lets try this:

Next, launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the BOLD REGEDIT below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ALTNET]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ALTNET/Dashboard]

On the desktop, doubleclick fix.reg and allow it to run. Let it merge.

Empty Recycle Bin

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

I added fixme.reg to the registry but still, no change. I believe I did it correctly. When prompted to add fixme.reg to registry during prompt I clicked "yes". Not sure if I am clear on the "allowing them to merge" part during last instructions

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

If you are taken to the internet page, just close the page.

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot

Sorry , I have tried every fix that you suggested. I still have Altnet that is runnibg all the time. It still cannot be deleted from registry. I have run 6 different versions of spyware/adware/malware scanners. All find Altnet. But None can remove it. Even when these programs claim Altnet to be "immunized","quarrintined", or "deleted". * Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
