Download Registrar Registry Manager from here:
http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

Put it in its own folder. You may want to keep this program. It is an excellent free, registry editor.

Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':
{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}

Right click on it, and select delete. There should be more then one of them.
If you get a confirmation question, respond OK then close out the program.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}: NameServer = 85.255.116.92 85.255.112.68
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}: NameServer = 85.255.116.92 85.255.112.68

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Hi LDTate, Sorry for confusion but I don't understand the bit where you say: "Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go': {0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3} Right click on it, and select delete. There should be more then one of them." Should be more than one of what? I pasted it in but Registrar registry manager didn't show any different folders than before I hit 'Go'. When I was installing it, it asked me to confirm wether I wanted to install a registry of default values and bookmarks. I confirmed "Yes" to this question. Was that a mistake? Regards, Chris

Hi LDTate,

Sorry for confusion but I don't understand the bit where you say:

Should be more than one of what? I pasted it in but Registrar registry manager didn't show any different folders than before I hit 'Go'.

When I was installing it, it asked me to confirm wether I wanted to install a registry of default values and bookmarks. I confirmed "Yes" to this question. Was that a mistake?

Regards,

Well lets see if those are still there. Post a new HJT log please.

Make sure "My Computer" is highlighted

Tap the "F3" Key to find the next entry of the file. Continue using the "F3" Key until it's finished searching.

Close Regedit.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.
Had more success doing it that way. Deleted quite a few files. Recycle bin was already empty though, so I couldn't delete the contents as there weren't any to empty. There is one more 017 showing as you'll see below. Couldn't find any listing of it in the registry manager though. Here is info as requested…

Hi, I'm afraid I've been having awful problems ever since I used Regedit the other day! I've not been able to connect to the internet at all. I was on the phone to my ISP provider who told me to get a technician round. So I just got a guy round who told me that I must have wrecked my computer whilst messing with the registry. He felt that by deleting all files in the registry with that particular script in it we may have inadvertently deleted some legitimate files which the 017 had embedded itself in. After he left I had one last ditch attempt at a system restore. I managed to restore it to the end of last month and thats how I've managed to get connected to you now. Now I'm really confused…don't want to mess with the registry again…and I'm connected to the internet now and don't want to jeopardise that. What do you think? Regards, Chris
I've used that fix hundreds of times. I hope you didn't pay too much for the tech visit.

If that happens again:

Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe You just run it and
things should work OK after it reboots your system.

This is the information on that IP address we've been trying to kill [removed].
I don't think you're located in the Ukraine.

Its Ok I didn't pay too much for the visit… I'll re-download regedit again and I'll download winsockxpfix.exe at the same time. And give it another crack. Thanks again for ongoing help. Got a bit spooked there when my internet connection dissappeared - but I really want to get rid of that Ukrainian stuff! Regards, Chris
Sure. Here is new HJT log. Please note I haven't had a chance yet to download and run regedit again, so my computer is still as it stands after I did the system restore i.e. as per end September.

Hi LDTate, Sorry haven't had a chance to re-do the steps I intended to. Had some personal/family troubles which I've been dealing with - hardly had time to even check email. I still intend to carry out the steps and fully eliminate 017's in the way you advised - but I won't have a chance to for probably a couple of weeks now as I must travel abroad to visit my father who has been taken ill. I would rather keep thread open but I'll understand if you want it closed for practical reasons. If we close the thread will I still be able to access the previous advice you've given me? Regards, Chris
