Indeed. I just used the internet though and got the usual error message which logged me off. Then I ran hijackThis and one of the 017's was back. Then I shut down and rebooted and ran it again and it was gone!
Just happened again. Look.

What about this. Does this look Kosher to you?

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://www.viplegal.com/search

Also - I've rarely updated my windows XP. Now when I try to download security updates I can't connect to the web long enough to do the process as the hijacker logs me off. Could my lack of updates be the problem?

Best regards,

Chris1001
Something is stopping our fix.
Please disable:
SpywareDoctor

Spyware Doctor's OnGuard protective functionality may interfere with certain HijackThis fixes we need to make. Please follow these instructions to disable it:

To deactivate Spyware Doctor's OnGuard Tools

1. From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
2. Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

You can reenable it once your system is clean.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = =http://www.btbusinessoffice.com/searchpane

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://www.viplegal.com/

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}: NameServer = 85.255.116.92 85.255.112.68

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

run Fixwareout.exe from your desktop.
Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text that will open (report.txt) Please save this file, you'll need to post it with a new HijackThis log.

Reboot and "copy/paste" the text file (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Have followed instructions. Computer is behaving better after I ran AVG a couple of days ago. I also ran spyware doctor in Safe Mode. They fixed a few of the problems and showed the location of others - which I then deleted manually. I also managed to download some microsoft XP security updates. I am, at the moment, able to use the internet without getting the win32 error message. However, I experience problems if trying to download, for example, an mpeg file. Also, sometimes computer slows right down while I'm surfing. Here is requested info:

* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.

Just for the record - I just ran a fix on the two problem ones using hijackThis: O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}: NameServer = 85.255.116.92 85.255.112.68 O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}: NameServer = 85.255.116.92 85.255.112.68 I ran this fix whilst still connected to the web. I then logged off the web and checked hijackThis again - they were not there. But as soon as I re-connected to the web, I ran a hijackThis scan again and they had both returned - I didn't even have to surf the web, its happening as soon as I re-connect! Regards, Chris1001

Hi LDTate,

I followed instructions but C:\inst.exe wasn't there! Process manager showed 26 processes running but no C:\inst.exe. I downloaded some microsoft updates earlier on today - could that be why?

For the record here is my latest logfile:

Well those two 017's are still there.

Use add/remove programs and remove Spyware Doctor.

Next:
Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}: NameServer = 85.255.116.92 85.255.112.68
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{0933C58D-D963-465E-BF2A-86741D0F5CD3}: NameServer = 85.255.116.92 85.255.112.68

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot and lets see if they're gone.
Hi, I haven't carried out the fix yet simply because I guess I'm a little reluctant to remove spyware doctor. I think, if my memory serves me correctly, I paid for the version - its not just the free version which I can simply download again. Will I have to lose it permanently? Is there any way I will be able to get it back? Its helped me out many times before by removing stubborn spyware that other programs such as SpyBot or AVG couldn't - hence my reluctance. What do you think? Chris
Those 017's really need to go:

O17 Section

This section corresponds to Lop.com Domain Hacks.

When you go to a web site using an hostname, like www.bleepingcomputer.com, instead of an IP address, your computer uses a DNS server to resolve the hostname into an IP address like 192.168.1.0. Domain hacks are when the Hijacker changes the DNS servers on your machine to point to their own server, where they can direct you to any site they want. By adding google.com to their DNS server, they can make it so that when you go to www.google.com, they redirect you to a site of their choice.

Can you run the combofix again? No need to download it agin if you still have it.

Thanks again for ongoing help. Here is requested info:
