Hi, well I've problem with pop-ups, several scans on mi Pc, browser crash, and pop-ups
I run spybot S&D, then ad-aware, and finally ewido anti-spyware.
Please help me with this problem.

Hi matutin:

Well, Ewido didn't have much to say and that's how I like to see those reports, but they sure can be misleading. Just a quick glance tells me all is not right.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Caution: Running SmitfraudFix in option #2 on an uninfected machine will remove your desktop background.

Then, please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the SmitfraudFix report.

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

Please use this link:

* Close all windows and browsers, before continuing.
* Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
* You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
* When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
* You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
* When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Your computer will then shutdown.
* Turn your computer back on.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\g28599406.dll

Please perform a search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

If you were unable to delete any of the files, then please follow these additional instructions:
 Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.

Please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt.

That looks much better. How is your PC running ? Any Problems ?

You can delete two programs I asked you to install. SmitfraudFix and Look2Me Destroyer. They have finished their work and should not be retained.

If everything is running normally, I suggest the following.

First, a question. Are you using a firewall ? If you are using the Native MS XP firewall, I suggest you use another. A firewall is essential when connected to the Internet.
Please note: After installing another firewall, the MS XP firewall must be disabled, in Control Panel.

Below you will find a link to kerio, which has a good free firewall for personal use and a link to sygate. Note that it is not recommended to run two firewalls simultaneously, not even along with the new Microsoft firewall.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if Malware infects a computer with this operating system the Malware can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Use Cleanmgr to clean temporary files:

1. Click > start > run and type cleanmgr and click OK
2. Scan your system for files to remove.
3. Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
4. Click OK to remove those files.
5. Click Yes to confirm deletion.


Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

    • Download the new Ad-Aware SE version, and follow the instructions on how to do a full scan: http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=11150
    -reboot after using Ad-Aware SE. Also while there get the VX2 plugin and follow the instructions to run it also.

  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
    • To protect yourself further:
    MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
    Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
