Hello pc storm and welcome to TomCoyote,

Please do the following:

Updating Java
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_08-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
The following explains how to remove items from your computer that are malware. These items must be fixed!

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LanzarL2007] "C:\DOCUME~1\Alain\LOCALS~1\Temp\{17A017A7-0CB2-4A12-8C63-69FBE07010F7}\{D1DA2BA7-2592-4036-9BB2-DCCABDE8DC1A}\..\..\L2007tmp\Setup.exe" /SETUP:"/l0x0009"

Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Post (reply) with a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look. Also what problems are you experiencing? Are you having problems with your desktop?
First of all thank you for the reply Susan528.
I've followed the directions and still have some of the same problems. The first one is that my home page has been replaced and I can no longer reset it with the internet options. My tools/internet options/general-home page now has a button which says "use blank". If used it would set my home page for "about:blank" (help) My pc was also running very very slowly. The disk light would run forever it seemed making me think that it was running through some processes before settling down to do any kind of work. It was taking me twice as long to get to any web pages or to do anything on the pc letting me know that I have a virus problem or other entity screwing me up. It has only been about a half hour but I think (so far) that my pc is running more smoothly now. Again thanks for taking the time and I look forward to your directions.

Hello Susan528,
Actually, I've just booted up my pc and it runs very slowly. Takes forever just to get through the booting process. This is the webbrowser that comes up when I try to go onto my browser which is telus:

http://apps5.oingo.com/apps/domainpark/dom…p;s=MYTELUS.NET

It is not telus but in fact a webbrowser called "Network Solutions"

There is still something in my pc making it run very slowly. It is infected. I have a toshiba recovery disk but I hope not to use it. I would very much like to figure out how to purge my pc of this "carp**" but do not have the technical knowledge to do so. I appreciate the time you are taking to try to figure this out with me.
PS: I believe that the pc is infected with about:blank and I've tried to find sites that would help me get rid of it. I know that it is a hook somewhere on a file that tricks the pc into believing it belongs there. Ewido finds nothing, Norton finds nothing, panda finds nothing, hope to find something that will work. Talk to you soon.

Hi pc storm,

I really don't see any problems due to malware. I am glad your computer is running smoother but I do not know about the slow boot-up.

I would post to this forum:
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showforum=83

STEP 1.
======
DON’T BECOME OVERCONFIDENT WITH ANTIVIRUS APPLICATIONS INSTALLED!!!

http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic….39eba6ea0b5e8ee

Stay up to date on security patches and be extremely wary of clicking on links and attachments that arrive unbidden in instant messages and e-mail.

"The number one thing the majority of the malicious code we're seeing now does is disable or delete anti-virus and other security software," Dunham said. "In a lot of cases, once the user clicks on that attachment, it's already too late."

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Updates regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

  • More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for allowing me to assist you.

Susan
Thanks for all of your help Susan528. I will teach myself how to remove programs off the startup and maybe that will speed up the booting process. Again many thanks and I will definitely donate to this site for all of the people like yourself who volunteer their time to help others who are less technical. pc storm
