This is my logfile on a fairly new laptop I'd appreciate any help or suggestions to fine tune it.

Thanks in advance.
Hi there, and welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry you've waited so long for a reply, but as you can see we're quite busy. :)

Your log looks pretty tidy now, but there are a few issues to address…
  • I see absolutely no sign of an antivirus and/or firewall program on this computer. You need to install one of each immediately or you will be very likely to have an infected system soon. The XP firewall only protects against incoming threats, not outgoing. You need a firewall that protects against both.

Here are two good firewalls, and both are free for personal use… Sunbelt-Kerio and ZoneAlarm.

Two good antivirus programs are Avast and AVG Both have free versions for personal use.

  • You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 7 .

Go here and download and install JRE 5.0 Update 7. Click the link that says Windows (Offline Installation). Save it to your Desktop. Then go back to your Desktop and double click jre-1_5_0_07-windows-i586-p.exe to start the install.

Once you have the new Java installed, click Start> Run, type in appwiz.cpl and hit Enter. From the list, uninstall Java JRE 5.0_06 and any/all other versions older than 5.0 Update 7.

  • Having a site in the Trusted Zone (unless absolutely necessary for access) is a bad idea since many hijackers will use your Hosts file to redirect certain common sites (like these O15 entries) to their site. You don't want to end up redirected to a bad site with your settings for that site in the trusted zone!

If you do not need these in your trusted zone to facilitate access, or you did not knowingly permit this access yourself, then please fix the following O15 entries with HijackThis….

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sony-europe.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sonystyle-europe.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.vaio-link.com

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.
