Hello and welcome to TomCoyote forum. This is being called a Wareout infection. You are hacked by folks in the Ukraine. I suggest you stay offline as much as possible to deny them access to your computer and follow the directions.

Thanks to LonnyRJones, Swandog46, AutoDad and any other who helped with this fix.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

(hold those two logs until we finish)

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Do you know what this is? C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer.exe If not, use these free online scans to find out:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

(some items may be gone, removed by the fix. Don't be concerned, just do not miss any that are left)

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmcwa.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmcwa.exe
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{61DA6EB3-13EA-4233-8C4C-6252A55CA689}: NameServer = 85.255.113.94 85.255.112.225
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{C682588A-560A-462B-9568-6B41B57BAE6B}: NameServer = 85.255.113.94,85.255.112.225
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{C7804BC2-7DB6-46DD-BDAC-F45F42D38001}: NameServer = 85.255.113.94,85.255.112.225

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmcwa.exe <<< file

C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)
Prefetch info: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_…refetch-XP.html

Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.

Restart the computer and post the two logs requested above along with any comments you think will help. How is the computer running now?

Thanks…pskelley

Thank you for your help. My PC has improved and now it works without any problems. I have solved the problem with my homepage since my last post. I have also done everything you adviced but I hadn't found 2 files: 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchIndexer.exe' and 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmcwa.exe'. Hijackthis also couldn't fix this file: ' O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1'. I will apply the latest logs from hijack and fixwareout. I hope all my spyware problems are solved but please check these 2 logs for any problems. Thanks again.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. Must be Windows Defender not allowing our fix.
Please turn it off: We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
Open Windows Defender, Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

This program: SUPERAntiSpyware may also be blocking us. I have no instructions for that program, but you should be able to figure out how to turn it off until you are done.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

If those lines are still there after a reboot, try removing them in safe mode with those programs turned OFF:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

Once they are gone, let me see a last HJT log, I have closing information you need.

Thanks…Phil
Once again thank you for your help. I have deleted those registry entries, but they weren't locked by Windows Defender because it is not installed on my PC. I wasn't able to delete them until I made a safe boot and shut down all of my antivirus and antispyware programs. Now everything seems to be OK. I have one last question for you: each time when I start my PC, Zone Alarm asks me to grant the Internet access for the Command Line Interface application ( CLI.exe ). Should I allow it? I haven't done so because it tries to reach IP addess 127.0.0.1 and that is the same address as the one I've been trying to delete from registry. Here is my latest Hijackthis logfile. I hope there won't be any further problems.

Thanks for returning your information. Before I look at the last log, let's talk about cli.exe, here is your information:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintas…esslibrary/cli/
If you look at the first 023 line in your HJT log you will see the ATI (graphics card) item that is probably asking for access. Why it needs access daily I can't tell you, I do not use that card.
Here is a support link if you want to ask them: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894

The number you are seeing is the number of your local host proxy, here is the line from my computer:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1;http://localhost

The Wareout is gone and that short number: O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1 is just a marker HJT gave us to identify Wareout. If you want to clean out the hosts file, do this:

http://www.funkytoad.com/hoster.htm <<< download this tool and then click the button to "Restore Microsoft's original hosts file"

Here is some information about using and maintaining a hosts file: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts2.htm

You HJT log looks good, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Thank you for your time and work. I have bought this PC a month ago and every minute I spent on it was used to remove spyware. If you hadn't helped me, I would have probably spent even more time on it. So thanks a lot.
