When I click on search results from Google, I am not taken to the correct page. It goes to some other search engine results for what I searched for or to a page with ads on it. Like this: http://fast-loans.org/asdfasdf.cfm?nft=1&t=7&p=4

Here is my log:

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Your computer has been hijacked by people in the Ukraine. What you have is a "Wareout" infection.

85.255.112.0 - 85.255.127.255
Inhoster hosting company
OOO Inhoster, Poltavskij Shliax 24, Kharkiv, 61000, Ukraine

Please download FixWareout from one of these links:
Fixwareout.exe
Fixwareout.exe

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

* Save it to your desktop and run it.
* Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
* The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
* You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
* Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
* Once the desktop loads a text will open (report.txt). We'll need that in a bit.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):
(Note: Fixwareout.exe may have removed some of these)

corrida.exe <— file

defect08.exe <— file

parism.exe <— file

runload32.exe <— file
Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)

Also open this file with Notepad:

C:\fixwareout\report.txt

And paste it's contents into your next post.

:)
Thanks for taking the time and effort to help me with this. I tested out a few searches on Google and it seemed to work correctly. The reports you asked for are below.

How did this infection happen? Did it come with something that was downloaded and installed? How could I have prevented it?

Thanks,
Mike

Good job.

"Wareout" is gone!!!

Your Java needs updated:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe

The latest version out is jre1.5.0_07

After updating you must remove previous versions via "Add/Remove Programs".

jre1.5.0_07 update link

I'm not positive how this infection gets spread.

You have an antivirus and firewall (both "up to date", I hope).

Did you know that infections can be deposited by rogue web sites without your knowlege if your security settings for your web browser are not correct?

You can check your browser settings here: Jason's Toolbox

You may consider installing SpywareGuard and SpywareBlaster (see the last link in this post). They prevent malicious active-x components (the lines that begin with "O16" in the log) from beging installed. They can be a source of infection.

Lastly, educate anyone that uses the PC to NOT click on/download things they see online until they can be investigated to be sure they are legitimate. This PC is used by my Wife and Daughters, and I have a "standing rule": Never, EVER, download ANYTHING without asking me FIRST!!! Then I check it out. Some things I have allowed. Others I have not.

I hope this has helped.

Thank you for using the forum.
