Thanks for the reply, a late reply IS apreciated all the same!!

My pc has not be behaving too strangly. No pop ups but spybot S&D keeps detecting WinSys.exe registry delete event at boot up. It also detects an ITBarLayout Registry change. (which i think may be no big deal, old software change??)

My main concern is I have been getting hammered by virus/worms in my email see below:

Viruses found in the attached files.
The file confirm.zip: Virus identified I-Worm/Netsky.Q. The attachment was moved to the virus vault.

They seem to be all a variant of the Mytob and Netsky virus. I just wanted to make sure nothing has slipped by the AVG. I thought maybe Hijack this would shed some light on this.

I also run ASquared + Ewido (expired).

Here is the log file again (fresh scan as requested) Just curious, why the new scan?

Thanks Aagin!!

Just curious, why the new scan?

Your HJT log was done back on the 18th so anything new to the system I wouldn't see.

Every instance of IE reads and writes to the ITBarLayout value upon launch. This is normal.

Backup your Registry...
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run...)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

Click "Start"> "Run"> type in Regedit tap Enter Key

Make sure "My Computer" is highlighted

Click "Edit"> "Find"
Type in winsys.exe tap Enter Key.
Right Click on the file if found and select "Delete"

Tap the "F3" Key to find the next entry of the file. Continue using the "F3" Key until it's finished searching.

Close Regedit.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Your Java is out dated.

Be sure to keep SunJava, updated

In Add/Remove programs click on these and press *remove* if listed:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 - 97.99Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 - 143.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 - 144.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5- 151.00Mb
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04 - 130.00Mb
Or any other outdated J2SE

It is important to remove older versions as these are the ones with the holes in them. You will be surprised when you go to add/remove to see all of the versions sitting there.

Download Newest >>>> http://www.java.com/...nload/index.jsp

Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed >>>>

Thanks for the reply,

Just one note I do not run Internet explorer, (ITBarLayout refernce) perhaps it is the system start that triggers it at boot up?

I searched the registry but no intsances of any reference to winsys.exe were found (aquared fixed that which spybot could not) However even after emtying the trash and reboot Spybot still sounded the alert at boot up. Here is what it reports:

Category: System Startup global entry
Change: Value deleted
----------------------------
Entry: WinSys
---------------------------
Old Data: C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinSys.exe
New Data: <greyed out>

I cannot understand why it brings this up every time, also there is no file sat said location C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinSys.exe (i have even set it so show hidden/system files.

I am a little perplexed, I have read somewhere that this can be a nasty file.

Thanks for the attention!

Here is my new scan

Windows System
WINSYS.exe Added by the W32/Mytob-M or W32/Mytob-EK WORM! Note: This worm/trojan file is found in the System (95/98/Me) or System32 (Nt/2000/XP) folder.

lets see if this will help

Backup your Registry...
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run...)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

NOTE: To be extra safe you can choose to only remove the items in RED.

WOW!! Thanks for finding that!! I would have never figured it out. Was that in this line below? O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinSys] C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinSys.exe Is there any good link you could point me to with information on how seriously compromised I have been? Do i need to get new passwords to my banking etc...?? How come avg does not find it in a system scan? Should I have a diffrent scanner? Or should I supplement AVG with another one? I will get on the Java updates also. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

LDTate, I downloaded regcleaner and followed your instructions, it took about 4 goes to get it spotless. However on bootup winsys reg event still picked up by Spybot. Is there anything else I could try? I will look into Sophos. Thanks

I'd try uninstalling SpyBot and reinstalling it. BTW, Ewido will still scan, you just won't get any updates. You should also be able to run a online Ewido scan.
