Dear Guys,

I was downloading a codec and I guess it totally messed up my computer cause it put spyware on my computer and hijacked my browser. It put two icons on my desktop (1. Security Troubleshooting and 2. Online Security Guide). It then put an icon on my system bar and keeps telling me I have a
'critical system error' and to visit this site to fix it. Then when I initially use IE it takes me to http://www.safetyuptodate.net/ Can you guys please help me out. I'm really sad my computer is messed up. Thanks.

This is what the IE page looks like:

Dear Friends,

1) I ran HJT in safe mode and then "fixed" the following file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hp100.tmp

2) Then I ran smitRem and ran the disk cleanup. It seems like the spyware problem is gone because I do not have my "homepage" as the www.safeteyuptodate.com and because I the two icons on my desktop are gone.

3) I am including the smitfiles log and the new HJT log as well. Please let me know what you think. Thanks. You all are awesome!!

Daemon,

MY IE has not been running super fast, so I was hoping you could take a look at my HJT log and see if something is up with that.

In addition, when I run spybot, I always get CasaleMedia as a problem that needs to be fixed-any ideas on how to fix that?

Thanks for your help. Hope you're having a good weekend and watching the WC Final today!

I ran SmitFraud and the contents of the rapport log and HJT are below

Looks OK. Update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. Then:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin (do not open any folders or open the windows control panel while the scan is in progress).
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido.

Post the ewido log for me to look at.

Daemon, I ran spybot and ewido, and both of them came back as clean. You think I'm good to go?
