Computer has slowed down considerably

I have that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. My computer has slowed to a crawl. I have run Ad Aware, and Spy Bot Search and Destroy. I Also Run Microsoft Defender. I use McAfee antivirus (which is up to date), and Zone Alarm. The thought of reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling all of my software makes me sick. Maybe somebody can help me.

Here is some information on the computer itself.

Microsoft Outlook send and receive is so slow that it is nauseating. Sometimes when I exit Microsoft Outlook I get the following message:

The instruction at "0x00000004" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

Download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite and post the results here.
With a new hijackthis log.

Right clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on the Settings button in 'Startup and Recovery'. In the bottom pane - under 'Write debugging information' - click on the down arrow and then select 'None'

Also try increasing the Virtual Memory

What I'm seeing does not seam to be malware see here.

little eage. Thanks for the response. I set the write debugging to none, and increased the virtual memory to the max. Although with a gig and a half of RAM this computer should be OK. No noticeable improvement. If it's not malware, what else could it be? Any more ideas? I'll try anything. Way down deep I'm thinking backup and reformat and reload everything. A horrible thought.

Remove ad-aware. Remove McAfee and reinstall it. Do not reinstall ad-aware.
