[DadTheAvailer]

Hi,
Am using XP with 6 users. On one user, the SpyFalcon virus detected message keeps popping up. There is an icon on the 'Notifications, section of the Start toolbar. It appears only for one one of the user's.

I have searched the registry (Searched for and deleted one reference to SpyFalcon) and the C: drive (no files or folders fouind).

I tried a utility I found through Google search (SmitREM) to get rid of it.
- In safe mode goto Add/Remove programs and remove SpyFalcon
(I didn't find any program of that name or anything that looked unusual)
- In safe mode delete C:/ProgramFile/Spyfalcon
( again I didn't find any files of that name or anything that looked unusual)
- followed the rest of the instructions

However, even while in Safe Mode, the Popup continued to show up.

Hello DadTheAvailer, Welcome to the Forum.

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now. It's out dated. Use Add/Remove Programs and remove HijackThis

you can get a complete installer that installs HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut from http://www.thespykil...es/HJTsetup.exe .

Click on the link and select Save, save it to your desktop and double click HJTsetup.exe.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here [Add Reply].

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

• Install Ewido anti-malware.
• When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
• When you run Ewido for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
• The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
• The program will now go to the main screen.

You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.

• On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
• Click on Start.

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close Ewido.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter



This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file: c:\rapport.txt



IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Here is the log of SmitFraud .... I ran it twice. Once when logged on to the pc as me and a second time when logged on as my son (the affected user). I compared both files and found the following additional lines on my son's log. Except for the path showing his name instead of mine, all other lines matched my log. * Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)
Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.
Choose 'delete a file on reboot'
In the field, copy and paste next:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sbnudh.dll

Click open.
Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now. Click Yes/ok
Your system should reboot now.

After reboot,

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this:

Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.


Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.


Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

• If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
• Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
• Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
• Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
• Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
• Login on your usual account.

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.




The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:

• Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
• Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
• On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
• In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.
• On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
• Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
• Click OK.

Next Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Display. Click on the Desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the Web tab. Under Web Pages you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. Click Ok then Apply and Ok.

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start Ewido, and run a full scan.

• Click on Scanner
• Click on Settings
  • Under How to scan all boxes should be checked
  • Under Unwanted Software all boxes should be checked
  • Under What to scan select Scan every file
  • Click on Ok
• Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
• Let the program scan the machine.

If Ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says Perform action on all infections and put a checkmark in the box next to Create encrypted backup, then choose clean and click Ok.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save Report.

• Click Save Report button
• Save the report to your Desktop

Close Ewido and Reboot in Normal Mode.

I may have screwed up on one Dialog box response.
Re: ewido report line: C:\NetDownLoads\heart.zip/heart.exe -> Trojan.Sporse : Error during cleaning
When the cleaning process found 'heart.zip/heart.exe, it informed me that the file was an embedded object and couldn't be removed unless I chose to remove more than just the file itself. I think I should have said Yes. I didn't.
If I simply delete the entire folder, would this solve the mattr??

use Add/Remove Programs and remove Ewido unless you want to keep it. It's only a 14 day trial version.


Log looks good How is it running any issues?


You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.





If you dont have these programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
